As Bangladesh celebrates 40 years of independence, we think it is time to profile and celebrate the success of the Bangladeshi community here in the UK. We want the British Bangladeshi Power 100 to be a reference point, a resource, an inspiration and a talking point.

They inspire us....really? No not Oppenheimer, not Goya, not Clooney, not Chopin... a group filled with many religious people with their own agenda and Mumzy Stranger inspire us? Psh.

I agree that most of the list is pretty mediocre but well, it's at least a beginning. And to be fair, all of the people you mentioned were/are brilliant in their respective fields but they're not pioneers. Bengalis have been in England for centuries but it's only in recent decades they've started carving a niche for themselves and becoming prominent as individuals - someone like Rushanara Ali, for instance. Hopefully, in the future, someone will build on their achievements and do something truly awe-inspiring.
What's interesting about this list are the people who haven't been mentioned - like the first Bangladeshi Queen's Counsel, Ajmalul Hossain QC. Not surprising that Baroness Pola Uddin isn't there given the expenses scandal - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pola_Uddin,_Baroness_Uddin

Surprised that Konnie Huq isn't there either given that she's a fairly visible TV personality and married to the hilarious Charlie Brooker

She's there. Check 'Media' section. She's at #3 in media category.

If you extend the term from being 'British Bangladeshi' to 'British Bengali', then Rhona Mitra should be on the media list too. And she is Beautiful - Tara Wilson in Boston Legal anyone?

I agree that she isn't particularly attractive (unlike Rhona Mitra) but she is a minor celebrity in the UK.

Actually, what I was surprised by in that list was the inclusion of a Bangladeshi professional footballer. I didn't know there were any! He may not be a Ronaldo or Rooney but it's definitely a big step!

Your nationality is British, ethnicity is Bangla/Bangladeshi. But you guys have it backward. It's Bangladeshi-American, Indian-American. Mexican-American. Not the other way around. Then again, Bangladeshi British sounds odd.

shouldn't the ethnicity come second for those who got citizenship?
It's weird in Anglo saxon countries.
In France if some one is from some other country but got citizenship here he will just say Je suis français(e) I mean I never heard any1 saying Je suis français Africain or français Algérien or the other way. In American TV channels I often here African-American or Asian-American that's weird.

^ Now that I think about it, I kind of agree with MoC. I mean just because you have dark skin, long eye, you get labeled. But if you're white...
