Default Anyone going to The Big Bangla Run 2013 10k?

http://www.thebigbanglarun.com/

I have registered but will wait till the last week to signup for the race. This will be my first 10k if I go for it. From couch to 10k in 4 weeks ain't easy but I am hoping for a good challenge and see it through.

Anyone else going from BC?

Couch to 10K - that's ambitious and I salute you. I'm working on just my 5K run soon - I'm the only one in my family not to have done a 10K, let alone a 5K. My wife, my daughter, and even our Old English Sheepdog.

Go for it and good luck!

I used to be very active in my younger days. While I am not overweight (according to weight chart) running competitively is a different ball game alltogether. Today I went for my first run at 5:30 in the morning and I am feeling the pain now.

This is how it looked outside at 5:30:

about an hour later:

I was the only one running...

But off the couch (or rather warm cozy bed) on a winter Friday morning will be the key !

Forget the warm bed. I am going to come to your home within 6 am everyday from now on and run for 2 hours straight for preparation. Up for it?

For some reason the Ks were registering as Gs in my head. So I thought you got 10 Gs for coming in first! Haha. It would be so cool to go from couch to the bank.

Thats a wonderful initiative....... But 10K is a bit too much for most dhakaites, but a walk in the park for rural population...... Would love to have some women participants, not sure if thats going to happen...

Someday I want to see such a run organised at the coxs bazar coast, that would help promote tourism also (I read about this somewhere, forgot the source but sounds like an awesome plan)

... wat?

Edit: I was on my phone when I read your comment. The link to book wasn't visible (or distinguishable from regular text). So the comment read really weird.

Sorry about that.

Dhaka Int'l Run deferred
Sports Reporter
The Big Bangla Run, an organisation of Bangladeshi expatriates in United Kingdom will be collaborated by the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) during the Dhaka International 10km Run which has been deferred by one and half months. The run which was initially slated to be held on January 18, will now be held on March 1.

“Due to lack of visibility during the month of February due to dense fog, we have decided to defer the run by few days and hold it on March 1,” said Abidur Rahman Shimu, chairman of Big Bangla Run, at a press conference at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

Having expressed his pleasure with being involved with the international run, BAF vice president Tofazzal Hossain said that they would provide technical assistance during the International Run.

Dunno if I can maintain my interest for that long...

Finished the race today. Here is my report:

10k Race report/rant:

3 days before the race I sprained my right leg. Decided to go anyways, because **** it, I am not going to wait one more year for a 10k race. With bruised ego, I limped through the whole race and ended up making things worse by aggravating the sprain.

The Race:
  • About 1500 peeps showed up for the run (just guessing, don't know the official number, and I doubt the organizers do either)
  • 80% of them quit after the first 2k.
  • 5% finished the race in the first 30-40 minutes. They were the pros.
  • 5% regular people, like me, who actually dared to finish the race the hard way.
  • 10% cheated their way by taking rickshaw/cab/car.
  • There was no water available for most of the us during the race. Those of us who believed the organizers and didn't bring water or bag with them during the race, had to buy water during the race. I mean who runs 10k with a water bottle?
  • There was no gps tracker to time the race and the distance as promised, the whole race was a guestimated distance. I was using a calibrated GPS-enabled runners app on my phone to track the distance and it was a whole 8.5KM.
  • WENT FOR A 10K, WASNT A 10K
  • Was promised a timer/distance sign after every km. There was none.
  • Some volunteers were actively encouraging runners, who were way behind, to give up and go home so that the volunteers could leave early.
  • There was no race lane, basically everyone was racing through traffic, with every chance of anyone being knocked out by famous bangladeshi drivers.

Finished the race in one piece and in about 1hr 20mins.

Not running another race organized by these guys. They had good intentions but they are horrible organizers.

There is another one in chittagong by the beach, maybe I will try out that one next? We will see.
