Captain to be named the day before the match
Captain to be named the day before the match?
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president AHM Mustafa Kamal bowled a beamer on Monday against those who were rallying for the pressing issue of captaincy with the ICC World Cup 2011 just two months away.
The BCB boss brashly announced that they were not in any hurry to announce the name of the captain while talking with reporters during a road show programme for the showcase event styled "Catch Bangladesh Catch".
"Is there a match tomorrow?" questioned Kamal sarcastically when asked when they were going to announce the captain for the World Cup. He also added: "You [the journalists] do your work and let us do ours."
It may be mentioned here that Shakib Al Hasan had been named captain only for the Zimbabwe series in a dramatic fashion, which only created chaos as Shakib himself had expressed disappointment over the decision. The world's number one all-rounder had at that time raised question about the role of the skipper in team selection.
Many thought that the game's governing body in the country would take lessons from that incident, but it seems that they are not ready to give much importance to the captaincy issue while selecting the team, despite the role being an integral part in cricket. Rather, the BCB boss demeaned the role by saying, "We must pick the team first and then the captaincy issue will come. Team is first, then the captain."
"What benefit will you get by announcing the captain now?" said Kamal when it was mentioned that a captain has to do his homework with his team and thus would require a certain amount of time for that.
"We will issue a press release when we announce the captain. We have our own plan. We didn't find any reason to talk about the captaincy issue in the board meeting at this moment. There are some other sensitive issues and we must do everything professionally. It's a serious issue and a hard job," continued Kamal.
"You can't easily pick someone because we don't have such a player. We gave the job to Shakib because Mashrafe [bin Mortaza] was not available," he added.
Kamal however dismissed notions of the age-old club issue that could be playing a role in the decision-making.
Apparently, Kamal was not happy with the team's success under the leadership of Shakib, who led from the front to clinch a 4-0 series victory over New Zealand, which was followed by a 3-1 success against Zimbabwe in the latest ODI series.
Kamal also came down heavily on the team's performance despite the series victories. "Our batting was not good and bowling too. You can only praise the fielding. We are not satisfied with the performance. We must think about it. Our batting was also not good against New Zealand although we won the series," he said expressing his disappointment.
"There was no consistency in the performance. You can't find any player who was consistent in four games played against Zimbabwe," he added.

Silly politics, he complains about the batting (a fair point), but who has been the most consistent batsman... thats right shakib.
Hey Im a fan of mashrafe mortaza, but seriously, I would prefer mash getting fit and concentrate becoming the bowler he was before.
And how could he complain about the bowling at all, every bowler has been either superb or at the least good.

This sucks. This is utter bull and complete disrespect to a man that has really singlehandedly started to actually help a country progress towards better times in terms of cricket. Bad bad bad.

Shakib doesn't want captaincy before the WC. Why everyone want to force him? He wants to captain the side for long time. He knows if he fails in the WC then he will lose the job and will not get it back anytime soon.

I am really sick and tired of this " Who will be the WC captain" game. Cut it out and just name a captain. Enough with this drama.....

If Kamal was soooo dissapointed despite the fact that Bangldesh won 4-0 against New Zealand and 3-1against Zimbabwe..then imagine how dissapointed had he been we LOST 4-0 and 3-1 to New Zealand and Zimbabwe respectively. this dude wuld probably not even be sitting in his office right now, the public would have beaten him up. he would have been fired.
dude, just be thankful that Shakib and co. saved your a$$....

Exactly He should only be captain when he is perfectly comfortable executing the role.
secondly, We need his bowling to click during the World cup, Shakib seems like our last top order/middle order batsmen who can put some respectability to our total.

Most arrogant bcb head ever. Clearly he doesn't know a thing about cricket. How can a captain prepare himself overnight? What about captain's opinion in team selection? And who would talk about batting performance like this when a team won a series 4-0?

He has gone insane! He should take his "Lotta" to an outhouse and do some serious bit of thinking. What is this garbage about consistency? What do you call Razzak's performance? Isn't taking a bunch of wickets in three out of four matches a measure of consistency? What are the negatives on Shakib's performance as a captain? Leading his side to serie victories is the absolute testament of his leadership skills despite the perceved non-performance of the players around him. Wake up Lotta and stop politicking.

This petty politics is both stupid and utter madness. If its true, this will set our cricket MANY years back. Lota Kamal will take our cricket to the gutters. Infights and total caos. Dark days ahead...

The main job of a captain is to lead from the front and be an example and make the country proud. Shakib has been doing it since the WI tour then why Mash again? There is no such rule as replace the PERFORMING CAPTAIN with the 'imaginary captain(Mash)' that was in mind, is there? Shakib has done better than all the previous captains combined and much more, yet he is not going to be respected for this?
This is village conspiracy by this village cow lotus kamal.
If Shakib is not selected as captain then prepare for some CHAOS in the team and a MOODY SHAKIB and Negative performances from him. And I back Shakib for any crime he does as he is the VICTIM of A VILLAGE COW. Lotus is here to ruin the best cricketer we have. I don't know what revenge he is trying to take on Shakib risking the whole country's hope! I hope Bangladesh Cricket can immune itself from this LOTUS KAMAL DISEASE.
Beside if MASH has any common sense, he would step down and say he thinks Shakib is the best for this role. otherwise he is also just a GREEDY person who lusts over power and leadership with RESPONSIBILITY for the nation is the LAST thing in mind.

Public might have beaten him up. (I so hope!) But, he would not have been fired. He is very close to the AL leadership. Accountability applies to lesser human beings. Not to Lota or the likes.

unless the infighting causes Lota to be kicked out of BCB. Not very likely.

Low life Loiita playing power game against a 22 years old. How on earth batting, and bowling consistency can improve if someone else given captaincy other than Shakib? This is pure bull crap reasoning! Bowling wise it was Shakib and Razzak the most performer against NZ and Zimbo, so where on earth Loitta see no consistent performer with ball?!
But yes in batting there werent enough consistency, yet who again leaded from front time to time to a consecutive series win? Like that low life loser Loitta, many of us here not happy with batting performance, but how that can get better by not selecting Shakib as captain? Captain should be the one who can lead from front with his own performance, and has captaining skill on and off the field, that is Shakib the only one in our team at the moment. Mash or Razzak or even Tamim is nowhere near to Shakib in that regards, Loitta trying to win his personal game in expense of our WC disaster. I dont get it, what the hell those other directors and officials are doing??
Media people should slap his face everytime, everyday until that low life loser stop playing crap with our cricket team.
