Default Michael Yardy fly's back home due to depression.

Michael Yardy has withdrawn from England's world cup squad suffering with depression.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cric...nd/9434379.stm

This is very sad and a disturbing piece of news. My thoughts are with Yardy and hope he can recover from this state very soon.
I know he wasnt in the ashes tour but somehow I wanna blame the guy who made England's fixtures.

At times he looked a bit off in the pack during BD tour, smiles seemed like keblakanto'r hashi.

No, they didn't. They won't lie about such a serious thing as depression.

it's serious if it is true. depression is the easiest thing to fake, no one from ICC is going to get a shrink to check you up for fear of hurting your feelings.

of course, you have infinite trust in ECB and co's truthfulness, I don't.

Seriously? Easiest thing to fake? I suggest pick up a medical tome or two.

medical tome ? what do I need a medical tome for ? who is going to check whether he is actually depressed or not before he flies back ? suggest reading my post again.

You cannot accuse someone of lying without proof. But you are free to believe whatever you want. Personally I believe Sachin Tendulkar is a drug cheat and a ball temperer. But my belief has exactly as much validity as yours.

Neel has a great point here. ICC has no sure way to check wether he is really depressed.

This could be a ploy to bring someone else in

frankly, I don't really blame them if they have. I don't get this squad rule, ICC pays for 15 man squad and some support staff, who those 15 players or staff are is none of ICC's concern. they should say we will pay for this number of stuff, we do not care if you change players, rotate them or whatever but we will not pay for any extra members.

only condition should be that the 15 man squad has to be announced at least 24 hours before a match. tony cozier was saying that west indies and zim lost a chance to get back their players (barath for WI) because of this stupid rule. they changed the rule for australia and allowed mike hussey !!

Guys please dont make jokes on something as sensitive as this!
I know someone who is suffering from depression and its the exact feeling as what Abirz describes, only in this person's case, they've been suffering from this torture for about 1 year and 3 months...every day..every hour..every minute.
And Im sorry to hear that you went through that Abirz and glad that you've managed to put it past you.

Again, wishing Michael Yardy a speedy recovery.

AND HEYY!! Happy Independence day guys!!!!!!

Zee, sorry I have to pull this thread from the dead as I have been gone for a couple of days only to find out today that I got a warning from BC for being uncivilized.

Yes, you are right, I meant exactly how you stated and in fact I was going to write that only to be interjected by my coworker; so I didn’t bother to write the rest or even check how I spelled “disease” and see what has happened since then. You thought it was of poor taste, some thought I was being a smartass and what not…..but I was just being sarcastic.

Going back to your point why it was a wrong impression that depression is only rich people’s disease: yes, it’s a bit of generalization but when people in Bangladesh say that Blood pressure is a rich-man’s disease they or the saying in Bangladeshi context don’t really mean people who are rich only has blood pressure. What it actually means is in a poor country like Bangladesh only rich people can afford to find out that they have a simple issue as blood pressure (though it’s not the case anymore as healthcare is more accessible now days but the saying or the witty meaning of the saying lives on). But by no means high blood pressure is simple and people can have strokes, as my mom did (who is not rich), but would that saying be demeaning to my mom? No, it’s just a saying and one would hope that people who lived in Bangladesh or had Bangladeshi cultural influence should understand that if they didn’t then one cannot blame them, but since it’s Banglacricket, I thought it would be appropriate to say something funny in Bangladeshi context…..especially with the way English team is going back and forth with their fatigue issue based on their performance after each match.

But I do know we Bangladeshi are sorta emotional and take things too seriously. I know my personality often clash with that as I tend to joke around a bit and I could also come across too direct. Anyways, the fault is mine since I am in a public forum full of Bangladeshis…peace.

I completely understand this, I've been in and out of serious depression since July last year, due to some relationship and personal problems and also a bit of misfortune, always end up arguing a lot with my parents, I lost 15 kgs in the last few months because of complete apetite loss, the depression thing is a bit better now but still returns sometimes randomly,I go into a deep sorrow mode and end up crying/sobbing without any apparent reason, I havent had any professional help, things have improved a bit with time, before I was constantly depressed all the time

Depression is an extrememly hard and painful thing to overcome and you never know when it'll end or return, you go through the pain every second of your life, from the moment you open your eyes from sleep to the moment to close them, and sometimes you cant even sleep because your head is so full of all these thoughts, and your heart feels so heavy, its like a very slow, extremely painful death that never seems to end, goes on for months, years or even your whole life, you dont know when it'll end, you lose interest in all things in life completely, the things that used to give you pleasure become dull and everything seems pointless, all you think about all day are your problems, these thoughts occupy your head, and you cant take them out of your brain, even if you manage to take your mind off them for a while, they come right back afterwards, basically you stop living, alhamdollilah things are changing now with time, Im getting better slowly now

ps. sorry for writing about my personal experience and illness, it was off topic

Honestly some of you are pure idiots. Having seen first hand what depression did to my mom, those who call it white mans disease can go **** yourself. Ignorant smartasses.
