Ok. We've seen Rubel at his best and we've seen Rubel at his worst. The question is what it is we (or the powers that be) can do to get the to get us the not only the hero he can be, but also the hero we need.

I charted his performance since the beginning of his career. There are two phases in his career where he has been magnificent (to us). An earlier phase and a more recent revelatory phase.

I notice two common themes that underlined his performance. Rather than than sharing what I think it is, I would like to ask you guys what you think brings us the Rubel we want as you look art the following.

One is presence of NZ. Not sure about the other.

Why would presence of NZ make Rubel perform? Flip your thinking - ask what would or did make Rubel perform?

I may not be right in my inference but I notice two common themes.

I guess those are the only time Sakib asked Rubel to bowl for his own life. Other times none of the senior players asked him to do so, so he didn't do that.

High pressure situation?

A good bowling coach to guide him as a mentor(Ian Pont and Heath Streak can be two good examples)?

The second one was one of my inference. A coach who can make Rubel stick to a script seems to be a common theme.

And the other, IMHO (rare example of me being humble, doesn't happen often so don;t bank on it), three pacer attack where they fed off of each other as they hunted in packs.

^Was a big fan of Ian and still am. People claim he brags a bit but the proof is in the pudding. The stunning improvement in the performance of our pacers during his reign is indisputable, and if I'm not mistaken it came on the back of a string of weak performances.

I guess I always believed in these two factors ever since Ian was in charge but the stats make it even more deterministic and conclusive in my mind. Very excited about having another world class pace bowling coach in Heath. Unless we're playing on spinning tracks and the opposition is proven to be deficient against spin, I always favor a 3 pronged pace attack. It is absolutely necessary to reach the desired ranking of 5-7 in the next few years.

One thing that often doesn't get mentioned as much is that Mashrafee is Rubel's ideal bowler(Mortaza in his prime), so most of matches where Rubel bowled alongside with Mashrafee i am sure he himself took a lot of inspiration to be better, and stats will prove that. Imagine how Sehwag was inspired to be playing alongside Tendulkar.

Did Wahab Riaz started the argument? I only watched the highlights, they didn't show the entire incident. I hope Rubel is not going out of his way to pick fights. Already started one with Kholi for no reason. Aggression is always good, but needs to be controlled.

I wouldn't call that incident with Kohli he started it. By what we saw Kohli was as obnoxious as he is when he galafied Rubel. As a bd fan it was one of the best moments in the world cup, i mean the send off Kohli was given. Thoroughly deserved and shows the newfound confidence and aggression of the team. We should in turn actually encourage it rather than do an Amderson on them and demoralize them worse criticize them

Controlled aggression is different. Not talking about frantics, offensive gestures here. I am a big fan of New Zealand, they have played this world cup and with true sportsmanship. If you want a team like New Zealand then the supporters and the media have to back it up too like New Zealanders. In NZ the biggest game is rugby which they follow passionately, trust me if you go to their games you will know what aggression and over the top aggression means. Have you ever watched Haka? Their warrior dance? It's the most intense and aggressive thing on sports that starts even before a game. Cricket is not played, watched and followed as passionately as in Bangladesh.

Without scrutinizing it further, let's agree to disagree In order to be a top side in cricket we need bowlers who can instill fear in the opponents, something I have always tried to put forward and hence my joy when I see Taskin and players alike that are coming through and representing Bangladesh. Trust me if we fill the team with SLAs just to contain runs, we are going to be perennial underachievers. Now we want to be world beaters don't we? Again not over the top, but we need to make our brand of cricket fearless, aggressive otherwise let's stop calling ourselves tigers altogether

I don't mind RUBEL dishing out a few words at the opponents, I rather enjoy it. He gets the bragging rights through his performances and that actually boosts the team on field. Straightens dropped shoulders as such the mind..... It has been a part of the game and we are no different. So long he keeps it Within CoC it's fine for me.

Competitive sports will have infield banters, remember Mohammad Ali? Boxing became a popular sports with his banters, and he lived up to it, even we were watching Ali fights LIVE....

In cricket every team does that & so should we. RUBEL is no saint to behave like a saint & lose his natural self ... Let RUBEL be RUBEL & we shouldn't try to anoint him with sainthood. If he's happy doing it, I'm Happy watching

Test Cricket and Rubel doesnt go together, our selectors are too narrow minded to realize that. Fun Fact: Tapash Baishya had better test average than Rubel after playing almost same number of tests
