Yes, improve the helmets. I don't care about style or comfort, there should be no ****ing way a ball gets through. Also, get rid of that silly point fielder that teams sometime employ.

Adult cricket injuries by body part recorded by the Victorian Injury
Surveillance System.
And there is another new type of injury that Bangladesh Test Captain Mushfiqur Rahim introduced, it is "Overuse Injury" .

There will always be accidents in sport. Protective gear minimizes much of the risk, but at least in batting, proper technique is paramount if the batsman wants to avoid head injury. Move the head outside the line and then duck/pull/hook etc.

The incident proves that how good yesteryears players was - Boycot, Gavasker, Hanif ducked and weaved against the best fast bowlers of all time (WI battery, Lillee, Thomo). Viv, Sobers, Ian Chappel, Viswanath, Fredrickes did not duck - they hook and cut and rarely ball touches. Making cricket more batsman friendly would make this fatal accident more frequent as people with poor techniques would come more. Ponting is probably the last one who could hook and pull but even he was hit by bowler of lesser quality like Harmisson. I was watching one of Viv's innings just after hearing PH's incident. Viv missed the bouncer of Lille. But the ball hit his shoulder - not head
