Roqibul keen to pay back Sakib
Quote:
Batsman Roqibul Hasan is determined to pay back his captain’s trust and promised to become a more aggressive player in his bid to cement a place in the unstable number four slot of the Bangladesh team.
Roqibul made a surprise entry in the second ODI, at the cost of experienced Mohammad Ashraful, largely due to a support of his skipper Sakib al Hasan, who against the custom critcised the team selection.
His poor performance in the New Zealand series, in which he scored only 51 runs in four matches at an agonising 40.47, drew a sharp criticism forcing the team management to overlook him for the first game.
The failure of Mohammad Ashraful opened up the door for the right-hander and he grabbed it with both hands by becoming the highest scorer of the second game with his 65 runs.
His strike rate was not so bad as he faced only 79 balls in the innings. He entertained the holiday crowd at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium hitting a six off Prosper Utseya, which also completed his fifty.
His six fours in the innings have also evidenced his stroke-playing ability, something which earned praise from Sakib after the game. It also gave a befitting reply to his critics who often raise questions about his strike rate, which is hovering over sixty in his 47-match ODI career.
‘Actually, I am not worried about my strike rate,’ Roqibul told reporters on Monday. ‘I think I have already improved my strike rate and I am working on it. I am already feeling a change in my play,’ said Roqibul.
Roqibul was confident that Bangladesh would maintain the form of their second match, which they convincingly won by six-wicket to square the series 1-1.
‘Obviously after winning the last match our confidence level is high, we will try to continue this winning habit,’ said Roqibul.

^thanks nadim. Good to see roqibul tring to become a more aggressive batsman. Its good that he's trying to improve his weakness and that is to improve that sr of his. Him becoming more aggressive will make him a much better batsman in not only odi's but tests as well. Remember that tests is all about playing various amounts of strokes so that the oppositions bowlers are always feeling uneasy. He should work on rotating the strike better as well. It still seems he has a hard time to pick the gaps in the field. Even in the last game he initially struggled to pick up singles. I liked the way he kept on using his feet against the spinners. If he can rotae the strike better then his sr will go up as well. I don't see roqibul ever having a sr of a 90 or a 100 but if he can play more knocks with a sr of an 80 then you will see the team putting up bigger scores. It will help the team a whole lot. Well let's see if he can carry on the good form.

Sounds great. If Raqib's SR can be 70+, he'll be fine but one more thing that would make him really successful is a second gear which he can revert to when needed. He has always been a good batsman with good footwork as well as great strokeplay. Because of his tendency to play longer innings, that second gear could really help out the team's horrific PP batting as well as his personal SR.

I hope by focusing on shots he doesn't turn to another later version of Ash. I mean what he needs is focusing on every delivery more singles and doubles instead of wasting the balls, by this way he can raise his strike rate. Last game we show he has the shots in his hand, when there are deliveries needed to be punished he can do it well.

So, he shouldn't think that hiting every ball from now on will make him successive aggressive batsman.

I'm sure he's not gonna turn in to another ash bro. Roqibs batting style is not like ash. Ash is of a hit/miss or live by the sword/ die by the sword player. Roqib on the other hand focuses on protecting his wicket. He doesn't get carried away and throw away his wicket. He seems to understand that its not important to hit a ton of boundaries and is patient. I believe he will be a better batsman then ash in the long term.

Hey guys, am not sure if the time for the match changed or not but in Cricinfo it keeps showing that the match will start in 3h from now. I thought it was a day-night game. Did I miss anything or is cricinfo showing the wrong time?

Anyone have any info on where we are likely to be able to watch this match online? Should we wait for the game to start before the links become available?

good morning all the BD creicket fans from mirpur.

the important thing is last friday it was a sunnny blue morning, but today it is a grey cloudy-foggy morning here.

it is to be added the weather of dhaka was also cloudy after 11 o'clock in this region of dhaka, so for todays match which is now a day match we may see cloudcover for the whole day.

in this conditions may be a third pacer could be helpful i hope the team management gets it right

the light is ok. in this pic u can see them at lower intensity. what i heard from our local Desco staff, that the local transmission system faces some problems when the lights goes full capacity, which is more than then highest capacity of previous system. thats why yesterday the neighboring area (including my home) saw several frequent power cuts after sunset which was abnormal.

i heard it will take 3-7 days for DESCO to fix the electricity supply system.

if BCB had done the test before the start of the series then DESCO could have solved the supply system errors before this game.

50 mins to the game. the sky is still cloudy and i expect it remain the same, though no chance of rain. anyway the light i think is OK for a scheduled start.

Its not a big issue really...the lights simply need to be realigned...see the problem was the stadium electrical substation was not working properly so when they fixed the substation the increased power made the light alignments all wrong...thats why all the light is focused on the pitch....so its a minor issue and according to the engineer it takes a day to fix....
