The R. Premadasa International Stadium (known prior to June 1994 as the Khetterama Cricket Stadium, after the area of Colombo it stands in) was the brainchild of the late Sri Lanka President Ranasinghe Premadasa, who championed the development of this colossal 35,000-seater concrete bowl, the biggest stadium in the country. Opened on February 2, 1986 with a limited-overs match between a Sri Lanka 'B' side and an England 'B' team, the stadium was built on swampland previously used by monks ferrying across to the Khettarama temple adjacent to the stadium. The inaugural one-day international was played on April 5, 1986 between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. On August 28, 1992 it hosted its first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia. The venue is best remembered for holding the world record for the highest Test total - 952 for 6 declared by Sri Lanka against India in 1997-98, in which the former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya scored 340 and Roshan Mahanama 225, the pair sharing the highest partnership in Test cricket with 576 for the second wicket. A new training centre was developed behind the stadium with 16 practice pitches and dormitories for the Academy which started in 2003.

The last test played here was Sri Lanka vs Australia - 3rd Test September 16-20, 2011 where Herath of SL took 7 wickets in second innings of Australian batting line up. Sum up to What guys ?? Pitch is something like first three day's batting friendly and then ball is turning and biting a lot ???

I think we should go with same bowlers in 2nd test. Just may be replace Sunny with Razzak. Any pacer you bring to play test after so many days and on hostile wickets to pace... It will be same or worse...so ill trust these guys....

well if the pitch was bit bowler friendly I would have shouted bad mouth towards our pace bowlers but there was nothing on that pitch. Look at SL pace bowling.. what extra ordinary did they do? Only thing I was bit annoyed that at first day our pacers were not tidy enough with their line and length.

I remember that 952-6 declared match! Saw every single ball that Srilanka had faced and found it rather strange that they did not go for the first ever 1000 as it was a dead match at that point!

Give the MTO a break bhais..It's only a match thread. Besides once the match starts, I think no one bothers to look at the first post anyway. . Never understood the fuss about opening a match thread..

Anyways, hope to see another spirited performance from our boys. Not expecting much from Ash and Mushy, but want to see Zahir, Mominul, Riyad, Abul and Razzaq play well.

By tradition and BC culture, the first post is supposed to be informative - primarily to provide hyperlinks to info of relevance to the match - score cards, streams, BC coverage etc. That is a courtesy welcomed by most members. Whether opening a match thread gives someone bigger balls is just a rumor.
