for the record, I love Sri Lankan food. I have close sri lankan friends and I love how they put fried coconut things with everything. it gives the food an extra kick and tastes amazing. I have yet to try Sri Lankan food from a restaurant. I am sure it's worth trying. Very interesting.

What is even more interesting is that the Sinhalese hathmaluva might have had its origin in Bengali culture. (I'm not an authority on this subject.) The Sinhalese are said to be descendants of a Bengali prince who set foot on Sri Lankan soil around 543 BC, along with his entourage.

Fish ambul thiyal ( මාළු ඇඹුල් තියල්)

Sri Lankan red prawn curry (රතු ඉස්සෝ ව්‍යංජනය)

Sri Lankan chicken curry (කුකුල් මස් ව්‍යංජනය)

Rotti with katta sambol (රොටී සහ කට්ට සම්බෝල )
that Fish ambul thiyal looks interesting, red prawn curry looks too bangladeshi tbh.

I had Srilankan food before, cant remember what dish I had but I absolutely loved it

They look like South Indian dishes and I guess taste similar too, I can tell by the use of curry leaves and the overall look and feel, they look awesome btw, I would definitely like to try the last one that resembles Dosa/pancakes.

@Roye I told you, although it is not unanimous but general perception is that the Sinhala are descendants of Bengali and Odiya people.

Yep, it is also called Saag wala chicken, but don't like this one bit, for me fish and meat should be stand alone dishes, too many stuff just ruins it for me, hell I don't even like potato or eggs in my biryani, I would choose palak Paneer any day over Palak Chicken.

Oh there are just too many and it is difficult to pick one or two.

If you are not vegetarian, you could try the Sinhalese chicken curry or the fish ambul thiyal, pictures of which I have already posted.

If you are vegetarian you could try the Sri Lankan "kalu-pol" pumpkin curry or the tender jack fruit (polos) curry.

I'm sure you have very similar preparations in Bangladesh though, due to the similarity of our cultures, and our probably shared roots.

They taste different from South Indian dishes mainly due to the use of coconut milk.

By the way, South Indian food is very commonplace and popular in Sri Lanka.

The last one is roti with katta sambol. Roti is firm and not flexible (floppy) like dosa.
By the way dosa is very popular in Sri Lanka too.

By South Indian I mean Malabari (Kerala) and Coastal Tamil cuisine, they use coconut milk too. South India is very diverse when it comes to food habits, culinary traditions, I should have cleared it in my last post.

Your pics are a delight btw, had my dinner an hour ago and now hungry again, I blame you lol.

In Staten Island where I am from, they have so many Sri Lankan restaurants. I have tried a few.

I love the egg curry and Sambal

What is Katta Sambol? Doesn't look like Chutney or Sambar
