Default Caribbean Premier League!

Caribbean Premier League

Yah, just as the title suggests, came to know this new tournament will host 6 franchises and will start on July 29th.

Till now, Micheal Clarke and Adam Gilchrist have joined in as international player.

So the obvious question :- Are any of our tigers getting in? Shall be a great exposure nonetheless.

Default CPL players divided into three pools

Players in the Caribbean Twenty20 Premier League draft have been divided into three groups, with a few players from each slated to form a squad of 15 for every participating franchise. There are six teams in all - Antigua, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Pool A features international cricketers- 14 from West Indies and 12 from overseas. Pool B includes six international and over 100 local players, a few of whom have represented West Indies. Under-23 players from across the country will make up Pool C. The draft will take place on June 5 in Jamaica.

A head coach, assistant coach, one West Indian and one international player, designated as 'franchise players' (who will be among the 15), will make up each team's selection committee, which will be in charge of all strategies for the draft. These franchise players are not classified under the pools and will be appointed to each team by the league.

Ross Taylor, Muttiah Muralitharan, Herschelle Gibbs, Adam Gilchrist, Mohammad Hafeez and Ricky Ponting make up the international franchise players, while Marlon Samuels, Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle form their West Indies counterparts.

Apart from the two franchise players, each team can pick four players from Pool A, seven players from Pool B and two from Pool C. Players selected from Pool C have to be under 23 years of age before September 1, 2013. All teams are expected to work under a salary cap, which is yet to be specified. A total of 24 matches will be played in the competition that starts on 30 July and ends on August 24.

Pool A

West Indies: Andre Russell, Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Dwayne Smith, Fidel Edwards, Johnson Charles, Kemar Roach, Kieran Powell, Lendl Simmons, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Ravi Rampaul, Samuel Badree, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tino Best.

International: Aaron Finch (Australia), Albie Morkel (South Africa), Daniel Vettori (New Zealand), Dirk Nannes (Australia), Luke Pomersbach (Australia), Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh), Shaun Marsh (Australia), Shoaib Malik (Pakistan), Steven Smith (Australia), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh), Umar Akmal (Pakistan) and Vernon Philander (South Africa).

Pool B

International: Elton Chigumbura (Zimbabwe), Davy Jacobs (South Africa), Justin Kemp (South Africa), James Franklin (New Zealand), Martin Guptill (New Zealand) and Kevin O'Brien (Ireland)

Soon these premier leagues would not only coincide with international matches, but also with other premier leagues.

Nasir's time will come. Even though in our eyes he's a star player and with the likes of Tamim and Shakib, he's not there yet in the world's eyes. If he sustains the good performances, which he should, he'll have premier leagues calling for him.

Hope Tamim and Shakib do well so other BD players get chances in this league. It should be a great tournament. Looking forward to it

FYI guy, lets stop jumping to conclusions. BD people have a real bad habit.

These list was made some time ago, probably before Nasir met the doctor. In-order to be in the list, he needs to make himself available at first. I think he will get a chance soon enough. Someone like Nasir will definitely attract the teams

Why no Lara? I think he showed interest in IPL a couple of years back. But no one bought him.

Keep up with CPLT20

The Caribbean Premier League draft takes place on Wednesday, 5 June in Jamaica, and fans and players alike.ill be able to keep track of which players are going to which franchise team via social media and the CPL website, www.cplt20.com.

As of 12pm Jamaica time (1pm Eastern Caribbean Time) on Wednesday, fans will be able to log on to the CPL website or the CPL Facebook page, found at www.facebook.com/carnivalt20 or follow the CPL Twitter feed, @cpl_t20 to see the six franchise teams being filled with players as the draft goes on and the players are bought.

“There has been much anticipation about the draft; fans are eager to know which teams their favourite players are going to be drafted to play on, and the players themselves want to know which country they will be suiting up for so we will be using the power of social media to get the word out as quickly as we can,” said Damien O’Donohoe, CPL CEO.

The Selection Committee for each team – which consists of the Head Coach, Assistant Coach and the International and West Indian franchise players for that particular team – will pick the teams, and the process will be supervised by the Most Honourable PJ Patterson, Walter Scott, QC and Lance Gibbs of the CPL Cricket Committee.  Also two outside officiators have been appointed by the Tournament Committee and will be present as well; they are former Jamaican Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe and former PWC Senior Partner Tony Lewars.

“Although most of the West Indian and International franchise players are unable to physically attend the draft due to playing commitments they will be with their coaches utilising technology and of course they have been in touch with their coaches to talk strategy and possible draft picks already, the selection teams will all be connected via Skype during the entire draft,” explained O’Donohoe. “Obviously the franchise players have a vested interest in seeing the best possible team compiled and so they have been very involved in the process.”

The player draft is exactly that, a draft.  Unlike the IPL which does an auction, CPL has chosen a more fair and controlled system for their first year. “A draft ensures that salaries are kept within the established range,” explained O’Donohoe. “We wanted to provide solid income for the players, but move away from the auction/sale format and ensure consistency within the draft round picks.  This format encourages picking of players who have been top performers and gives them higher salaries for being picked in the earlier rounds.”

The Team Composition

Each team will be made up from 15 squad players with the first two players of each team being the pre-selected West Indian and international franchise players.  The remaining 13 players will be four (4) Elite players (West Indian and International), seven (7) Eligible players and two (2) Under 23 players who will be selected from three (3) pools:

POOL A - ELITE

·         A total of 26 players available for selection

·         Fourteen (14) of these players are Elite West Indian players and eleven (11) are Elite International players

·         Each team will have four (4) selections from this pool

·         A maximum of two (2) Elite International players may be selected per squad from this Pool

POOL B – ELIGIBLE

·         A total of six (6) International players, over 100 Domestic players and the balance of players from Pool A who were not selected

·         Each team will have five (5) selections from this pool

·         A maximum of one (1) International player may be selected from this pool

POOL B – ELIGIBLE/UNDER 23

·         Developing, talented Under-23 players from across the region and the balance of Pool B players who have not been selected

·         Each team will have four (4) selections from this pool

·         The first two (2) selections will be done on the same basis as in Pool A and B, with each team getting a pick

·         The last two (2) selections will be non-competitive and teams must select Under 23 players from their country only (in the case of Antigua and St. Lucia this will mean players from the Leeward and Windward Islands respectively)

·         No International players are in this pool

Player Salaries

O’Donohoe also outlined the salaries for the players in the draft.

·         Franchise Players – US$150,000

·         Pool A - Elite

o   1st Round – US$100,000

o   2nd Round – US$90,000

o   3rd Round – US$70,000

o   4th Round – US$50,000

·         Pool B – Eligible

o   1st Round – US$40,000

o   2nd Round – US$25,000

o   3rd Round – US$25, 000

o   4th Round – US$10,000

o   5th Round – US$10,000

·         Pool C – Under 23/Eligible – all four (4) rounds are US$5,000 each

Post Draft Trades

Immediately following the draft, the team selection committees have a maximum of 24 hours to discuss internally and with other selection committees whether they want to do a trade for players amongst themselves, confirmed O’Donohoe.

“Only one trade will be allowed per team; players can only be traded from within the same pools; and no further trades may be done between teams after the 24 hour period following all draft selections,” he noted.  “We believe we have made the draft process as fair as possible, and that all teams will be given the opportunity to pick the best players possible.  We are excited to see the outcome of this very first draft for the inaugural Caribbean Premier League, and we encourage our fans to follow the process online.”

O’Donohoe said on the tail of the draft, team names and captains will be announced soon.
