Default The Open - 2008

No Tiger!! So what!! This is the chance others should capitalise. Garcia, Scott, Westwood, Rose, Els, Gooson all should be contending in the coming Sunday. Let us see who can hoist the clarit jug this year.

I wish Garcia wins this one. In last 5 British open he finished in top 10. This should be his year.

We are underway, and these are some of the numbers.

Hefty +9, F.
Daly (Former British open champ) +10 at 17.
Els, Vijay +10, F.
Paul Casey +8 at 18.
Ben curtis (Former British open champ) +8, F.
Ogilvy, Lenard (Former British open champ) +7, F.
Howell +6, F.
Aaron Baddaley, Love III, Westwood +5, F.
Rose, Watson (5 time British Open champ), Harrington (defending champ - with a sore wist) +4, F.
Ian Poulter, K J Choi +2, F (as usual).
Gooson +1, F, Weir +1 at 18.

The old man Watson still has it and turned it on at the age of 58 (soon to be 59). Hope he makes the cut.

Garcia just started with a boggie. So +1 after 1.

ANTHONY KIM, the young sensation (Rookie) from Hawaii is leading at Even. He is good. He has two tournaments in PGA tour already. Along with him is Masters Champion Emmelman. Both at Par after 4.

Best part I saved for last. Before Tiger came along, my golfing hero was "the Shark". Well with Anthony Kim he is up in the leader board. Did I mention he has two British Open also. He is 53. Go "Shark" (Greg Norman). Very recently he married Chris Evert. She must be lucky for him.

Adam Scott is grinding his round like true champions do in bad weather. He has 12 pars and a birdie in his 13 holes. I guess he has learnt his lesson just watching Tiger up close.

1st Day is over. The scorecard looks like a tornado just went through. One under is the leader. Clubhouse would be somber today. The wind and rain was brutal. Vijay who posted +10 said something like: the rain was falling sideways, (lol) I didn't play bad. This shows how merciless a golf course can be. It perfect conditions it will make the most arrogant one as the most humble person in the planet.

Rich Beam quit after 10 holes (former PGA winner who beat out Tiger Woods). Mickelson lost his ball at 6. Kenny Perry (ranked 2nd behind Tiger this year in FedEx point table) didn't even make the trip to Birkdale in fear. I await for day two drama.

I am happy for Greg Norman. He finished 3rd. Harrington played outstanding in the back nine and deserved to be the champ. The world gets another opportunity to get a major. Tiger has shut down the shop.

Very very dissapointed with Choi's performance in the final 18.
