Waiting for the USA match vs Ghana. It will be followup to the 2010 match (which was a followup to 2006 match)! That was a classic, loved every moment. Looks like we keep playing them every WC, and losing 2-1.

Hope we can win this time around, go USA. Will definitely miss Donovan

Tough group for the Stars & Stripes but I believe they'll do better than most think they will. They may not make it to the next round, but they'll compete hard for 90 minutes and bury whatever chances they'll get. I'm eager to see how well Julian Green fills Donovan's shoes.

Ghana are a much stronger side than they were four years ago and won't be easy to beat. But they still have that niggling issue with finishing which may again prevent them from being a true contender in this year's tournament.

GO USA!

That was a heartbreaking loss to Ghana and it would be nice if the USA can avenge that loss. I don't think that'll happen but would be rooting for the Stars & Stripes nonetheless. Ghana are just a couple of accurate finishers away from being genuine Cup contenders and the USA aren't. That said, the USA would again field the fittest, most relentless team in the tournament under a tactically smart Klinsmann who has the players to execute his plan. I see Ghana winning this 2-1.

The Germans will kick off their Cup Runners-Up campaign with an emphatic 2-0 win against the hugely overrated bunch of sulkers and whiners led by the greatest one-dimensional player of our era since David Beckham. The Germans know how lethal a finisher he is and will make him whine, sulk, and dive like there's no tomorrow. Multiethnic and driven by a fine coach, the Germans would again be a treat to watch.

AMERICAN OUTLAWS CHANTS

(Written in 1814 or 38 years after the Declaration of Independence)

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

(Fifth stanza was added after the Civil War or 88 years after the Declaration)

When our land is illumined with liberty's smile,
If a foe from within strikes a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that tries to defile
The flag of the stars, and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained,
Who their birthright have gained
We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained;
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave,
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.

As a shadhinotar shontan and muktijoddhader chhele raised on ekattorer gono shongeet, this beautiful cinema of words and music won me over at 13.
