Default Mushy and Ash fined

Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh have been fined for excessive appealing during the third day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Chittagong which finished on Tuesday. The incident took place during the 78th over of Sri Lanka's second innings when an appeal for a caught behind was turned down by umpire Nigel Llong.

Mushfiqur, the wicketkeeper, had appealed confidently believing Tillakaratne Dilshan had edged the ball off the bowling of Mehrab Hossain jnr. He ran towards the umpire while appealing before stopping about six metres in front of the batsman. Ashraful, the captain, too joined the appeal from his position at midwicket and stood near the pitch after the appeal was rejected. Replays showed the bat hitting Dilshan's body but no conclusive evidence of an edge.

Ashraful was guilty of breaching Level 1.5 of the Code of Conduct and was fined 15% of his match fee. Jeff Crowe, the ICC match referee, had spoken to Ashraful following similar actions in the first Test in Mirpur. Mushfiqur copped a heavier fine and was docked 50% of his match fee for violating Level 2.5 of the code which deals with "charging or advancing towards the umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing".

Dilshan, on 51at that time, went on to score 143, his second century of the match. Sri Lanka won the Test by 465 runs and swept the series 2-0.

I'd like the ICC to try and give those fines to a bigger team.

as much as we suck, n a part of me believes we should be deprived of test status, i think this is just ludicrous.....they are acting out of whole different issue.... and if that's the case, at least have the b.lls to admit it....

Exactly, the indians are absolutely disgraceful. Dhoni (for such an honourable and terrific leader) is a shocker. Murali is quite pathetic as well as he takes 3-4 steps forward at the umpire and before raising his index finger.

Most of the time, our boys dont know how to appeal (and thats why we miss out on some of those plumb lbws) and sometimes they will appeal for stupid ones (e.g. Mash)

peter siddle has the funniest appeal in world cricket and i always remember dennis lilee's crotch grab as he arched backwards and appealed. Appealing to an umpire is a real art form that our boys have to grasp and if anything we can be too respectful.

Murali intimidates the umpires to give him the LBW decision, by widening his bulging eyes, staring down the umpire with his raised finger, Shane Warne had the perfect art of intimidating the umpires, he was always successful. BD bowlers should watch at these two and learn the art of appealling.
Hopefully, Ash and Mushy will be a bit more tactical in the future, or they could face suspension.
I also remembered that Monty Panesar was once fined for excessive appealling and Sreesanth has had his wings clipped also.

Has anyone noticed the photo of Ash and Mushy at the front page of BC, at which below written Mushfiqur Rahman and Ashraful Islam. I just wonder is it on purpose or just mistakenly done !

My bad. Mental barf. Thanks for the heads up.

This is not the first time I said "Ashraful Islam" to refer to Ash.

Mushy is like a talking machine, always yapping, shouting. I am not suprised he is fined. But it is interesting to see our captain is fined as well.
