For example, 259 people died in road accidents during Eid festivities in Bangladesh. This is terrible by any standard.

So, anyone willing to visit Bangladesh? The advice will be ..

"DO NOT GO OUTSIDE YOUR HOTEL or ANYWHERE NEAR THE ROAD"

YOU WILL DIE.

Now think how awful and irrational that sounds.

Do I fear to live in London? ............... NO
DO I fear to go out in London? ...............NO
Do I fear to go to any sporting or cultural events in London? .........NO
Do I experience racism in London?...................................... NO

So why a paint a picture that doesn't represent London? Particularly to people who don't know London and may visit to enjoy a global sporting event?

No advice is much better than bad advice.

Yes, one won't be affected by most of the things I have said. But, it's always a good idea to be watchful.

Yes we are in agreement that London isnt rightfully represented, but the advice isnt without merit and I think there is no harm giving out some precautionary advice. Its people’s choice to take the advice or not.

And anyone who is already coming to the UK will think of not coming to London. I also dont think London’s image will be tarnished by a thread opened on a cricket forum.

And no one can and should give open assurances of safety wether its in jolly old London or Tim Buk Too.

This thread all of a sudden feels funny. There wasn't a single second where I even felt remotely unsafe. In fact sometime i left my cell phones, bags with passport, wallet in it unattended while getting food.

people were super nice.

Only time few ppl were not extra nice are the foreign immigrants working there and they are on the job. But i attributed that to their unhappy jobs or just doing a subpar job. It was mostly in transport - once during interstate transit i asked for clarification - the guy looked at me and just started mumbling. It happened after I had to get off my original train due to technical problem and every passenger was confused as hell. There was another train going to that destination from a different platform. I saw the sign, ran over while the door is about to close and I asked the guy standing there if the train was going to my destination.. he says No its going to "the end destination" but I asked for clarification and asked are you sure as it clearly stated it was going via my stop. The door closed and the guy couldn't care less. And i waited another 30 mins. I still think that guy didn't know and that train did go via my stop.

same thing happened with a bus driver when i told him to call out when the stop that I am going to arrived, he is like pay attention to the sign. usually in NYC when u request that to the bus driver, they try to be accommodating. If i knew everything why the f am i asking you. And they are getting paid for this.

miraz bhai and roniuk was helpful. It's from their posts and communication , my travel and lodging was smooth. Specially going to birmingham - i followeD miraz bhais posts to the T. It was so perfect. I don't think i would have figured that route out by researching.

iDumb British transport s****. I hardly have to use transport. Well it was almost after six years I used public transport when going to Lords cricket ground last Friday. St Johns Wood could not handle the pressure. It was getting dangerous at one stage during the morning.

I just loved UK. People were super friendly, public transportation was super clean unlike NYC subways, taxis were bit expensive though. Jubilee line trains had no AC, and I found that very strange. I used one during afternoon rush hour and it wasnt pretty.

But not for a second I felt unsafe. Wish I could live there to be honest

I agree with you. Subway condition is much better than NYC. Haven't encountered any homeless guy in the station at least. Services were also better in desi restaurants. We have a lot of invisible cultural segregation here in US, it was not visible there.

Only thing is I got lot of hard time in the airport. But that's pretty common for me flying into USA. i am always selected as a "random" security check everytime. Never fails. And it's digusting to see all those randomly chosen are majority brown even though they are minority of travellers. But i guess it is what it is.

I purposely avoided desi restaurants as I wanted to taste different food. Had Turkish and Persian food and I must say, they were really good.

Only complain I have about London is it is very expensive. Will visit some other cities next time I go there

This thread is like Bhanu's Koutuk. Bhanu enlisted for service in war, so he starts questioning the interviewer and for every question answer Bhanu will offer two options, one obvious and one bogus.
