just check one of the match threads in the archives section...my guess would be 1500 posts or so. could be more.
but i highly doubt this thread will be it.
i imagine our first world cup match against india will threaten the 2000 post mark

ok lets stop talking about what language ash spoke...personally i'm kinda glad he spoke hindi (yes i said it, and if you pseudo patriots have a problem with it, sue me).
ash speaking hindi automatically allows more ppl to hear him. thats a way a bangali gets on the stage in india. plus it might increase his/our fanbase (yes this sounds pretty dumb but its a hell of a lot smarter than what a lotta ppl have said in this thread already). imagine if tendulkar came to dhaka and spoke to reporters in bangla...
i have tons of respect for our heroic language martyrs, but for us to raise a fuss about ash speaking hindi in india to journalists is the dumbest thing i have heard of. there are a million and one things that are more deserving of our wrath.

SL wants to wallop us
After reading articles from a couple of places, it's obvious, that behind the smiling faces, SL blames, and quite correctly so according to the math, BD for them having to play the qualifying rounds. Those guys are dying to wallop us. It's upto our boys to make that eagerness work against em. Otherwise, কপালে প্যাদানি আছে৷

Again, you don't want a representative of your country to say something that most people wouldn't understand, which even for a bit would make him look like a fool. Further if he can speak in hindi it would showcase his talent and ability to speak different languages.
We gotta learn to take it easy. Say, I am a guy who can speak only desi languages - bangla/urdu/hindi. Someones comes to me and asks me a question in english, I didn't understand whatever the heck he said. I ask him in Bangla as to what he said, and I figure he does not understand Bangla. So, I ask him in hindi/urdu as to what he said. This does not make me any what less Bangladeshi or love Bangladesh less than those who can't speak hindi/urdu.
It's just about communication and friendly gesture, thats what we should keep in mind and learn to take things easy.
Anyways, it was really an OFF-TOPIC discussion. If you get it good, or else we move on.

Ask a japanese or a french to speak in hindi. Don't forget there are Bengali speaking people in India too. I saw in Movers and Shakers and was quite shocked to learn that Munmun Sen won't/can't talk in Hindi! Despite Suman Shekhars repeated pleading she only spoke in English (while suman was carrying on with hindi). When asked how she managed to do so many hindi films, she simply answered "dubbing".
For Ashraful or any other cricketer of Bangladesh, I agree with others who say, it should be about highlighting language/culutre of his country.

I really dont see whats the big deal. I remember a Japanese ambassador in Bangladesh and former US Ambassador Harry K Thomas who learnt bangla and would speak in bangla in our tv channels and functions and programs. If they are ambassadors (political) and did that, and got appreciation from us, why is it so bad if our cultural ambassadors do sth reciprocal?

Btw, I agree with al Furqaan et al. He did a smart thing by speaking in Hindi in India. Stop making a big deal out of it. Having some skill in any foreign language is a good thing. If he talked with Bangladeshi media in Hindi, that would be a different case altogether.
Please stop creating controversy out of nothing. No one would complain if Ash talked in English to the British media.

The game is about to start..
We should watch out for Jayasuria, Murali, Jayawardene..
Of them Jayasuria may hit a 60 ball 100 or Murali may pick up 5 or 6 wickets
