Brilliant...
Do you come to this forum to bad mouth Ashraful in each and every thread & opportunity? Do you have some personal issue with him? I mean, did he do something bad with you or some of your friends, relative and family? ............... I'm really sorry to see the distress you are going through with this name. I can help you off forum by joining your forces to destroy Ash, if he has done something so bad. But please keep your personal issues away from the cricket forum.

Asking for giving back Ashraful's captaincy is bad mouthing him?
In this thread we are asking to replace Shakib. If we agree with that, who are the possible substitute we have? Tamim, SN, Rahim, Mashrafee, Ahsraful are all the valid options with all of them with some baggage.
btw why you getting too personal and not sticking with the thread or the message in the thread? Is something is bothering you too much? Is absence of Ashraful is too painful to you?
So please follow your own advice first before giving someone advice i.e. "if he has done something so bad. But please keep your personal issues away from the cricket forum".

Some players enjoy the burden of captaincy. It makes them play more responsibility. I consider Shakib as one of them. If he find it to be a burden, I'm sure he'll quit voluntarily.
Shakib is really the only player who keeps himself fit, excels in all three formats of the game. By far the best guy to lead by example. I don't think there are any tactical geniuses a la Mike Brearly in the team as of now.

In that article and in the comments you made after posting it on BC, you gave the impression that he was a fairly soft spoken but confident young man. I've heard others say similar things when they met him face to face. So, do you think it is the case that his persona changes when he is wearing his 'Bangladesh captain' hat (on the field, press conferences, interviews etc) as compared to being himself off the field, away from cricket?
As someone who only knows him through his cricketing performances and newspaper articles, I can't but help think that he has a touch of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde about him!
|
A couple of things I should clarify. Firstly, I've re-read my emails and the reason why my article wasn't published by BC is because Mash was still injured at the time (I conveyed the view that once fit, he should return as captain). The article was supposed to be published once he was fit again, but alas this never happened. Just wanted to set the record straight.
Navo, thanks for your kind comments. I met Shakib very briefly earlier this summer and to me he was very courteous and very confident. However, it's what I hear in the papers from others that worries me (and I'm sure a lot of BC'ers). Ian Pont tells us he slept during the first X overs of an ODI while BD was batting, we hear of his spats with selectors and of "cliques" within the national team.
I don't know how true any of this is, but if it is, I think that's a shame.
I have no problem with Shakib as captain (for one thing, at the moment there are no viable alternatives). I just think so much responsibility so early on in his career (don't forget that Shakib was still playing Under 19 cricket as recently as 2005) has the potential to have a detrimental effect on him.
To put it another way, only an individual with exceptional leadership skills would be made CEO of a company within a few years of joining the company as an entry level recruit. Shakib has exceptional abilities on the field, no doubt about that, but there are also certain other "soft skills" that are required and Shakib is still developing these.
I think he just needs to sit back and approach things with a little more tact and thought. He's a fine cricketer and could be a great captain if he's only willing to accept when he makes mistakes and learn from them...

^ There are exceptions and Shakib is one of them. Not only his shoulder is big enough to take the responsibility but still perform unlike any previous captains we have seen. Yes, we all worry how long he can sustain the pressure, but there is no indication that he is slipping. Had it not for a freakish inning of Watson, Shakib would still be the #1 which sooner or later he (Shakib) will claim it back inshallah. How old was G Smith when he became captain of SA?
Gates, Zuckerburg, Page (Google) are some of the successful CEOs without the experience and age.
By the way, I don't see Mash coming back to the International standard. 5 times operation just on knees is too much. And then there is ankle, shoulder problem. The road to rehab is not funny!! Mash with Syed Rasel speed would be a downgrade from the current lot.
