Yes I think we all know who Di Matteo is and what he did with Chelsea lol. But I doubt Jurgensen will even be allowed to run this team on an interim basis for at least 6 month to pull out that kind of a miracle. I will give him at least another month, or better yet, BCB should make him the interim guy till T20 WC to see what he has to give, in case we botch up the entire process of hiring a coach, and end up having no coach at all till next year. That's a long shot thought. I think we will have a coach way before that. So no hope for Shane to get a permanent gig either way, sadly. In any case, I would like to keep him around on a long term contract though. We can't afford to change the supporting staff along with the HC in back to back years. That would be ridiculous. That's why we have been rooting for Mick to get the job. He will likely keep the same guys around on his staff. I doubt Pybus will ever do that. We will probably see all new South African/British-led coaching staff under him. That would be hard for our players to adjust to.

I just had to post this which is currently on my FB page, about what a world-class coach should do and must do to get the very best from the players. It's written about Gary Kirtsen before the World Cup.

Before any board, team. state, or organisation goes for a head coach they should be reflecting on this below. I said that the BCB needs an independent person on their selection panel who knows this stuff. It's kinda obvious. To those of us who coach, the writer has captured well the key points of a successful and world-class Head Coach:

FIVE STEPS TO A WINNING SIDE

Mr Approachable: Having been on the other side of the boundary rope himself, Kirsten’s mantra to Team India was simple — put up a management structure that is approachable, much unlike the Greg Chappell era. Along with Kirsten, the think-tank for the World Cup consists of mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton, bowling coach Eric Simmons, yoga instructor James Harrington, physio Paul Close and inspirational guru and adventurist Mike Horn — all of whom are easily accessible to the players, day or night, match days or non-match days.

Throwdowns: There’s no shortcut to success according to Kirsten, and India’s climb to the top of the Test rankings came through sheer hard work, and the coach’s throwing arm. Go to any Team India net session — before a big game or small — and Kirsten can be seen with a baseball mitten in one hand and a leather ball in the other, smashing the ball down with vigour at earnest batsmen. Feedback: After every match, series and tour, Kirsten ensures that a letter is written to every member of the Indian cricket team, including the backroom staff. The letters range from lavish praise to stern criticism. The team meetings have become more open-door, too, with every member of the side, brash upstart or seasoned veteran, allowed to have their say in the discussions and strategies leading into a game. Huh we can't express ourselves here huh? Somebody just deleted my post. Wonder what everybody else is feeling with this dragged-out fiasco and love affair with Pybus. I am sure they would be furious too and post the same way here as well.

According to Daily Inqilab Mick Newell said NO to BCB. BCB is still waiting for RP and looks like we are not getting a coach before T-20 WC.

Yeap absolutely correct you are sir! He has a clause in this county contract that will not allow him to coach anywhere else but Nottinghamshire/England Lions for the next 2 yrs. No wonder then BCB is all out on Pybus for the last 2 weeks. They probably knew about this beforehand. Unless they go for Greatbatch and get Zim-Washed next month, Pybus has the leverage and BCB might have to cave in to him and give him the job ultimately.

You know what, keep Jurgensen as the interim guy till September really. I won't mind getting a coach after T20 WC if they can get a better option than Greatbatch or Pybus. Newell was my guy after Pybus fiasco. No need to rush it now that he turned it down.

স্টুয়ার্ট ল চাকরি ছেড়ে দেওয়ার পর মনে হয়েছিল, হাতে অনেক সময়। নতুন কোচ খুঁজে নিতে সমস্যা হবে না। কিন্তু এক রিচার্ড পাইবাসের জন্য অপেক্ষা করতে করতেই সেই সময়টা প্রায় শেষ করে ফেলল বিসিবি। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের প্রস্তুতি ক্যাম্প শুরু হয়ে গেছে। সফরও শুরু হয়ে যাবে সপ্তাহ দুয়েকের মধ্যে। অথচ পাইবাসের জন্য অপেক্ষা কেবলই বাড়ছে।
বাংলাদেশের কোচ হতে পাইবাস যেসব কঠিন শর্ত দিয়েছেন, সেগুলো মানা বলতে গেলে বিসিবির পক্ষে অসম্ভবই। যা সম্ভব, সেটিও ইংলিশ এই কোচকে জানিয়ে দিয়েছে বিসিবি। বলটা এর পর থেকে পাইবাসেরই কোর্টে। বিসিবির দেওয়া প্রস্তাবে রাজি কি না, সেটা এখন তাঁকেই জানাতে হবে। কিন্তু কবে জানাবেন পাইবাস? তাঁর ব্যাপারে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত জানাতে বিসিবি থেকে এ পর্যন্ত একাধিক দিন-তারিখের কথা বলা হলেও পাইবাস এখনো এক অনিশ্চয়তার নাম। বিসিবির মিডিয়া কমিটির প্রধান জালাল ইউনুস কাল সেটা স্বীকারও করলেন, ‘পাইবাস কোচ হবেন কি না, সেটি এখনো অনিশ্চিত। অন্যদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগের কাজ আমরা কিছুটা এগিয়ে রাখলেও পাইবাসের ব্যাপারে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত আর কোনো পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া কঠিন।’
কিন্তু পাইবাস-পাইবাস করতে করতে না বাইপাস সড়ক দিয়ে পেরিয়ে যায় অনেকটা সময়! আগামী মাসের জিম্বাবুয়ে সফর থেকে শুরু করে টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপ পর্যন্ত টানা খেলার মধ্যেই থাকতে হবে দলকে। তার আগে কোচের সঙ্গে খেলোয়াড়দের বোঝাপড়াটা যত বেশি হয়, ততই ভালো। তা ছাড়া, যত দেরি হবে, সংক্ষিপ্ত তালিকায় থাকা অন্য কোচরাও তত পিছু হটতে পারেন—এমন আশঙ্কা খোদ বিসিবিতেই। শেষ পর্যন্ত পাইবাসকে না পেলে বিসিবি আলোচনা করবে কেপলার ওয়েসেলস, মিক নিওয়েল ও মার্ক গ্রেটব্যাচের সঙ্গে। সূত্র জানিয়েছে, এজেন্টের মাধ্যমে এই তিন কোচের কাছেই তিন বছরের জন্য কোচ হওয়ার প্রাথমিক শর্ত পাঠিয়েছে বিসিবি। তাঁরাও নাকি প্রাথমিক সম্মতি জানিয়েছেন। কিন্তু যতক্ষণ না পাইবাস-অধ্যায় শেষ হচ্ছে, কারও সঙ্গেই আনুষ্ঠানিক আলোচনা শুরু করা যাচ্ছে না।
বিসিবি সভাপতি আ হ ম মুস্তফা কামালও চান পাইবাসকে এই সৌজন্যটুকু দেখাতে। আইপিএলের ফাইনাল দেখতে ভারত সফররত সভাপতি কাল টেলিফোনে বলেছেন, ‘আমরা পেশাদারি মনোভাব দেখাতে চাই। পাইবাসের সঙ্গে আলোচনা শেষ হওয়ার আগে আর কারও সঙ্গে কথা বলা ঠিক হবে না।’ কিন্তু ততক্ষণে যদি দেরি হয়ে যায় অনেক, জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের আগে কি মিলবে নতুন কোচ? মুস্তফা কামাল আশঙ্কাটা উড়িয়ে দিলেন, ‘আমার মনে হয় না খুব বেশি দেরি হবে কোচ নিতে। আমি আশাবাদী। আশাবাদী বলেই এখনো পাইবাসের জন্য অপেক্ষা করছি।’ সভাপতির কথায় কোনো ধাঁধা কি মিশে থাকল! পাইবাস এখনো আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে কিছু না বললেও ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের অনেকের ধারণা, বিসিবি সভাপতির সঙ্গে অনানুষ্ঠানিক কোনো যোগাযোগ থেকে থাকতে পারে কোচের। পাইবাসের জন্য আশা নিয়ে অপেক্ষা তাঁর সে কারণেই।
তবে বোর্ড সভাপতি এই অপেক্ষার অন্য ব্যাখ্যাই দিলেন। পাইবাসের হ্যাঁ বা না বলার সময় নাকি এখনো পেরিয়ে যায়নি, ‘পাইবাসের মতামত জানানোর সময় এখনো শেষ হয়ে যায়নি। এ মাস পর্যন্ত সময় আছে। কাজেই আমরা আরও তিন-চার দিন অপেক্ষা করব। আশা করি এর মধ্যেই তিনি কিছু জানাবেন।’
ভারতে সভাপতির সফরসঙ্গী হয়েছেন বেশ কয়েকজন শীর্ষ বোর্ড কর্তা। ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, ডিসেম্বর-জানুয়ারিতে বাংলাদেশ দলের সম্ভাব্য ভারত সফর নিয়ে বিসিবি-বিসিসিআই আলোচনা হতে পারে এ সফরে। মুস্তফা কামালও দিয়েছেন সে আভাস, ‘আজ (গতকাল) আইপিএলের ফাইনাল শেষ হলে কাল হয়তো বিসিসিআইয়ের কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলব। ভারত সফর নিয়েও আলোচনা হবে।’

স্পোর্টস রিপোর্টার ॥ সবকিছুই ঠিকঠাক ছিল বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের (বিসিবি)। কোচ হিসেবে পছন্দের এক নম্বরেই ছিলেন সাবেক ইংলিশ ক্রিকেটার রিচার্ড পাইবাস। তাঁর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাতকার হওয়ার পর দু’পক্ষই আলোচনায় নিজেদের সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করেন। তবে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত পরিবারের সঙ্গে আলোচনার পরই জানাবেন বলে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় ফিরে যান পাইবাস। এরপর কঠিন কিছু শর্তজুড়ে দেয়ায় পাইবাসের সঙ্গে চূড়ান্ত সমাধানে আসতে পারেনি বিসিবি। পরে পাইবাসের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করে নিজেদের কথা জানিয়ে দেয় বিসিবি। তাঁর জবাবের জন্য অপেক্ষার ডেটলাইনও শেষ হয়ে গেছে। কিন্তু এখন পর্যন্ত বিসিবিকে কোন জবাব দেননি পাইবাস। এরপরও তাঁর জন্যই অপেক্ষা করবে বিসিবি। সেটা ৩০ জুন পর্যন্তও হতে পারে। এর মধ্যে পাইবাস কিছু না জানালেও অন্য কারও সঙ্গে চূড়ান্ত সাক্ষাতকারে বসবে না বিসিবি। এমনটাই জানালেন বিসিবির মিডিয়া কমিটির চেয়ারম্যান জালাল ইউনুস। সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় তিনি বলেন, ‘এখন পর্যন্ত পাইবাস কিছু জানাননি। তবে আমরা প্রয়োজনে তাঁর জন্য আরও ১ মাস অপেক্ষা করব। সেটা ৩০ জুন পর্যন্তও হতে পারে। এর মধ্যে তাঁর সঙ্গে আলোচনা চালিয়ে যাওয়া হবে।’ এখান থেকেই নিশ্চিত যেকোন মূল্যেই পাইবাসকে চায় বিসিবি।
পাইবাসের জন্য অপেক্ষা করলে আপাতত জিম্বাবুইয়ে সফরে প্রধান কোচ ছাড়াই করতে হবে বাংলাদেশ দলকে। অবশ্য, বোলিং কোচ শেন জার্গেনসেন অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন কোচ হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পেয়ে গেছেন। হয়ত তাঁর অধীনেই জিম্বাবুইয়েতে ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজ খেলতে হবে বাংলাদেশকে। তাহলে অন্য কারও সঙ্গে আলোচনা নয় কেন? এ বিষয়ে জালাল বলেন, ‘পাইবাসের সঙ্গে আমাদের যেমন আলোচনা হয়েছে এর সমাধান না হওয়া পর্যন্ত আর কারও সঙ্গে বসা আমাদের সম্ভব নয়। এক মাসের ভেতর তাঁকে না পেলে আমাদের পছন্দের তালিকায় আর যাঁরা আছেন তাঁদের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করা হবে।’ সবমিলিয়ে কিছুটা অভিভাবকহীন হয়ে পড়ল বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় দল। খেলা নেই এ কারণে আগেভাগেই দায়িত্ব ছেড়ে দেয়া স্টুয়ার্ট ল-কে চলে যেতে দিয়েছিল বিসিবি। কিন্তু পরবর্তীতে বাংলাদেশের জিম্বাবুইয়েতে ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজ নিশ্চিত হওয়ার পর কিছুটা বিপাকেই পড়েছে বিসিবি। অবশ্য, কোচ নিয়োগের ক্ষেত্রে বেশ ভালই অগ্রগতি হয়েছিল বিসিবির। কিন্তু পাইবাসের উচ্চাকাক্সক্ষার কারণে সময়মতো কোচ পাচ্ছে না বাংলাদেশ। জিম্বাবুইয়ে যাওয়ার একেবারে শেষমুহূর্ত আগে যদি তাঁকে পাওয়া যায় সেক্ষেত্রে হয়ত একজন ভাল প্রশিক্ষকের অধীনেই ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজ খেলতে পারবে দল। কিন্তু সেটা কতটা সফলভাবে শেষ করতে পারবে বাংলাদেশ? গত বছর জুলাইয়ের শেষভাবে এ রকমভাবেই জিম্বাবুইয়ে সফরের ঠিক আগমুহূর্তে কোচ হয়েছিলেন ল। ওই সফরে ১৪ মাস পর প্রথম টেস্ট খেলতে নেমে সাড়ে ৬ বছর পর টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে ফেরা জিম্বাবুইয়ের কাছে একমাত্র ম্যাচে হেরে গিয়েছিল বাংলাদেশ। পরে ওয়ানডে সিরিজেও হেরে যায় তারা। প্রতিটি কোচের নির্দিষ্ট কিছু গেম প্ল্যান ও কলাকৌশল থাকে যা ক্রিকেটারদের রপ্ত করাতে বেশকিছু সময়ের প্রয়োজন। একই ঘটনা কি পাইবাসের ক্ষেত্রেও ঘটতে যাচ্ছে? নাকি শেষ পর্যন্ত পাইবাস অধ্যায় শুরুই হবে না এবং কোচ পাওয়ার অপেক্ষা আরও বাড়বে বাংলাদেশের? তখন এ অপেক্ষাটা কি কালক্ষেপণ বলে বিবেচিত হবে না? এ বিষয়ে জালাল বলেন, ‘অপেক্ষা করা ছাড়া আপাতত কোন উপায় দেখছি না। ভাল মানের কোচ পেতে হলে কিছুটা বিলম্ব শিকার করতেই হবে। তবে পাইবাস না এলে পরে কোচ নিয়োগ করতে বেশি সময় লাগবে না বলেই আশা করছি।’

Mick Newell has withdrawn from the running to be the next Bangladesh coach. Newell, the director of cricket at Nottinghamshire, had been shortlisted as a candidate to replace Stuart Law in the role but has now informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he is not available for family reasons.

Newell's withdrawal leaves Richard Pybus as the overwhelming favourite to land the job. While the BCB have a shortlist of names that includes Mark Greatbatch, Dermot Reeve and Kepler Wessels, Pybus remains their preferred candidate. Law stood down in order to take the role of high performance coach at Australia's Centre of Excellence. Shane Jurgensen, who had been the bowling coach, has been appointed as interim Bangladesh coach.

"It is hugely flattering to be linked to such a job and, in many ways, it is a very attractive opportunity," Newell told ESPNcricinfo. "But I just felt that the time was not quite right for me. I have twins aged eight and didn't think they were at the age where they would understand if I was away for 10 or 11 months of the year.
"The other thing was that I knew that if I took the job, I would probably never coach Nottinghamshire again. I've worked for the club for 30 years and I've been coaching there for 10 years. It doesn't get much better than working for Nottinghamshire and I would have to think very carefully before leaving."

Negotiations between 47-year-old Newell and the BCB never progressed to the point where finances or length of contract were discussed. "My questions were about how they saw the role of the head coach and support staff. We never talked about money. They responded and, after 24 hours having a think about things, I decided that the time wasn't quite right for me to pursue this.

"It is a role that would be of huge interest at the right time. I hope I haven't ruled myself out of contention in the future as coaching an international team remains something I would like to do. I'd love to coach England at some stage - I'm sure any coach will tell you they want to work with the best players they can but, due to the age of my children, I have notified the BCB that I am not available for this role."
