জাতীয় দলের ওয়ানডে একাদশে এখন তিন পেসার খেলছেন নিয়মিত। কোনো কোনো ম্যাচে চারজনও। ঢাকা লিগের ক্লাবগুলো তাহলে কেন পেসারে ভরসা রাখতে পারছে না? গাজী গ্রুপ ক্রিকেটার্সের ডিরেক্টর অব কোচিং মোহাম্মদ সালাহউদ্দিন এ ক্ষেত্রে ভালো পেসারের অভাবকেই দেখেন বড় করে, ‘জাতীয় দল দেখে প্রিমিয়ার লিগের হিসাব করা যাবে না। আমাদের খুব ভালো চার-পাঁচজন পেসার রয়েছে, জাতীয় দলে খেলছে তারাই। এরপর তো আর তেমন ভালো কেউ নেই। প্রিমিয়ারের ১২ দলে দুজন করে ২৪ জন ভালো পেসার নিতে হলে কাদের নেবে? তাদের দিয়ে কি ম্যাচের পর ম্যাচ জেতা যাবে?’

এখানে বড় হয়ে দেখা দিচ্ছে আরেকটি ব্যাপার। এশিয়া কাপে মিরপুরের উইকেট যেমন পেস-বান্ধব ছিল, লিগ জুড়ে তেমনটি থাকার কথা নয়। শুরুর দিকে সতেজতা থাকলেও পরে হয়ে যাবে স্পিন উপযোগী। আর প্রচণ্ড গরমে টানা খেলার ধকলে পেসারদের ইনজুরিতে পড়ার আশঙ্কা বেশি। যে কারণে খালেদ মাসুদ বলতে পারেন, ‘ডিসেম্বর-জানুয়ারি মাসে প্রিমিয়ার লিগ হলে আমি পেসারদের ওপর ভরসা করতাম। কিন্তু খেলা যেহেতু হচ্ছে প্রচণ্ড গরমের মধ্যে, ওরা তাই কতটা কী করতে পারবে, কে জানে! নাজমুল হোসেন, শাহাদাত হোসেন কিংবা আরো অনেক পেসারের কথা বলা যায়, যারা অতীতের লিগগুলোয় ইনজুরিতে পড়েছে বারবার। পেসনির্ভর দল গড়ার ঝুঁকি তাই কোনো দল নেবে না।’

Legends of Rupganj = former Gazi Tank. Mohammad Salahuddin is the head coach of new promoted "Gazi Group Cricketers" - which is NOT Gazi Tank.

I read somewhere, officials said Super league (top 6 play each other) round will be day nighters and may broadcast in TV.
If that happens, we might have stream links!

I really hope, Jubair gets more games than last year while playing for the same team Abahani. He only played the 2nd last match for Abahani ( 1 out of 16 matches). Then coach Sarwar Imran had no faith on him. He bowled 6 overs with 2/35 with 5 Wides! Got Nafees Iqbal & Sabbir Rahman's wkt. With new coach - I see hope for Jubair!

আফতাব আহমেদ কোচ! ভাবতেই অবাক লাগে। পরিশ্রমের কথা শুনলেই যাঁর জ্বর উঠত, সেই তিনিই কিনা এখন তরুণ ক্রিকেটারদের বলেন, ‘ওয়ার্ক হার্ড’!
গত পরশু দুপুরে প্রিমিয়ার লিগের ‘প্লেয়ার ড্রাফটের’ ফাঁকে লা মেরিডিয়ান হোটেলের পুলপাড়ে কথা হচ্ছিল আফতাবের সঙ্গে। লম্বা দাড়িতে মুখ ঢেকে গেলেও সারল্যমাখা হাসিটা এখনো অমলিন। গত কয়েক বছরে মনের সাগরে বহুবার ঝড় উঠে থেমে গেছে। কিন্তু আফতাবের সঙ্গে কথা বলে সেসব বোঝার উপায় নেই। চরম দুঃখের কথাটি বলেও ‘হা হা’ করে হাসেন।
চট্টগ্রামে বছর খানেক ধরে নিজের নামে ক্রিকেট একাডেমি চালাচ্ছেন। এবার প্রিমিয়ার লিগে মোহামেডানের ব্যাটিং কোচেরও দায়িত্ব পেলেন। তা কোচ তিনি হতেই পারেন। ২০১০ সালের মাঝামাঝি আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট থেকে হারিয়ে যাওয়া আফতাব ১৬টি টেস্ট খেলেছেন, ৮৫টি ওয়ানডে ও ১১টি টি-টোয়েন্টি। তবে সহজাত প্রতিভা নিয়ে কোনো প্রশ্ন না থাকলেও পরিশ্রমে অরুচি ছিল সর্বজনবিদিত। কোচ আফতাবের আবির্ভাব তাই প্রশ্ন জাগায়, অন্য কোচদের মতো তিনিও কী করে খেলোয়াড়দের ‘ওয়ার্ক হার্ড’ বলেন!

‘প্রথম কথা বলব, যদি পরিশ্রম না করো, তাহলে আমার মতো খেলোয়াড় হবে। আর পরিশ্রম করলে আমার চেয়ে অনেক ভালো খেলোয়াড় হতে পারবে। যেটা আমি করিনি, আমার যে ভুল ছিল, সেটা আমি কোনো খেলোয়াড়ের মধ্যে দেখতে চাই না। অনেক ছাত্র আছে আজ আসে, কাল আসে না। পরশু আসে, তরশু আসে না। নো ওয়ে, পরিশ্রম করতেই হবে।’
ক্রিকেটার আফতাবের পরিণতি নিয়ে তাঁর দুঃখটাও বোধ হয় অনুমান করা গেল এ কথায়। পরে পরিষ্কারই বললেন, ‘আমি অবশ্যই ভুল করেছি। বাবা-মা বকা দিলে বাচ্চারা অনেক সময় বোঝে না। কেন বকা দেওয়া হলো, তা কেবল বাবা-মাই বোঝে। আমাকেও তখন অনেকে অনেক কথা বলত, আমি বুঝতে পারিনি। তখন আমিও বাচ্চাই ছিলাম মনে হয়। এখন বুঝতে পারছি, অনেক সিদ্ধান্তই ভুল ছিল।’

Aftab is only 30. He should still be playing, not coaching. If he learned his lesson, he should try and apply what he learned as a player instead of quitting. Way too soon to give up and retire.

I wonder if two overseas slots in the XI would be better. You don't want to bench a lotta BDeshi players, but good overseas players offer greater challenge for the opponents and more know-how for their teammates.
