steve smith was a leggie when he started out. He was also a Nasir style batsman in the lower order. He was a very bits and pieces cricketer back then. Now look where he is at.

Cameron white was also a leggy to start with. Smith was touted as an all rounder prospect from about the age of 17, pretty sure when he was first picked for the Aussie team his batting average was already over 40.

So did Nasser Hussain! Leggie too. Afridi has had an interesting arc. Started as a pinch-hitting Leggie. Became a top order test batsman who rarely bowled. Ending career as a slogging, fastish leggie.

Re Miraz, he looked like an able batsman and a very good finisher in the U19 WC. And his style/aggression and SR was based on what the situation req'd...which is also a good ability to have.
It's criminal (& not good for his development) that he's being played as a tailender in BPL.
His biggest issue with batting is dealing with int'l level pace. Insinuated so himself in Robi interview and was evident vs England.

I wouldn't care if he is a bunny like bowling coach Walsh with the bat.
Subject of him being a genuine batsman is a discussion for the future.
His main role in the team is a spinner. I would be happy if he learns more tricks about his trade as a bowler.
Imagine, just imagine the significance of a bowler who can win you matches. Test cricket after all, is a game where your team MUST take 20 wickets to force their way into contention for winning a match.
He has a unique way of making batsmen make mistakes. As we saw in the test series, he is not afraid of tossing it up....Murali used to do the same, so does Ashwin...
I would prefer to see him smile after taking wickets than worry about his batting at the moment...he's still a teenager, and his batting can be a little work in progress over due time.
He might surprise us with a gritty half century in his next test, or
Succumbed for a duck. Whatever his contribution with the bat in the near future, his batting will still be peppered with criticism. I know he can handle this, he's a humble individual.
He's making his country proud, with smiles as wide as his.

It's less about what he should be doing re batting, and more about where his team is playing him in the lineup.
His primary focus right now should be bowling - as has been the case - to cement all the good he is doing in test cricket as a bowler.
But that doesn't mean his team should send him in to bat at 10. I doubt his batting has deteriorated that much because of lack of focus/practice in batting.

Great knock by Miraz (partnership with Farhad) for the RK while they were in all sorts.
The kid can bat - I could see that from the U19 world cup highlights.

It was a great knock considering the situation he came to bat, this will certainly assure himself the belief miraz the batsman, as well team management by now should have more beleif on miraz the batsman.

Hope his critic watched his batting.
If you watched him bat in the U19 WC...you should have never doubted his ability...

He surely got the batsmen instinct. What i saw he needs to develop further and needs to add more shots to become a full-fledged batsman. Playing with tailenders will not help him becoming that. He will remain an able batsman at best under current circumstances, not more than.

If it is true good for Bangldesh and to the respective players good news indeed !!
Quote:
