This time Roberta, Daniella and Henritta cost Canada the Cup. They should form an all-girl sob-whine-and-bi*ch band now.

Guinness time!

Quote:
Bruins 4, Canucks 0
Associated Press

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - The Boston Bruins had waited 39 long years for another drink from the Stanley Cup, and Tim Thomas was awfully thirsty.

When the Bruins and their brilliant goalie barged into a hostile Canadian rink surrounded by another 100,000 screaming fans outside for Game 7, they emerged with the championship they wanted.

Thomas made 37 saves in the second shutout of his landmark finals performance, Patrice Bergeron and rookie Brad Marchand scored two goals apiece, and the Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 Wednesday night for their first championship since 1972.

Bergeron scored the eventual game-winner in the first period and added a short-handed score in the second to keep the Cup away from the Canucks, who have never won it in nearly 41 years of existence. Star goalie Roberto Luongo again failed to match Thomas' brilliance, giving up 18 goals in the last five games of the finals.

Mark Messier and the New York Rangers won Game 7 in Vancouver's last finals appearance in 1994. This time, Thomas silenced the NHL's highest-scoring team, erased nearly four decades of Bruins playoff blunders and crushed an entire Canadian city desperate to take the Stanley Cup to Stanley Park.

Thomas limited the Canucks to eight goals in seven spectacular games in the finals, blanking Vancouver in two of the last four. Boston dropped the first two games in Vancouver but became just the third team since 1966 to overcome that deficit.

Bergeron added a Stanley Cup ring to his gold medals from the Olympics and the world championships with his biggest game of a quiet series. He scored his first goal of the finals late in the first period on a shot Luongo saw too late, and Marchand added his 10th goal of the postseason in the second before Bergeron's short-handed goal, which inexplicably slid under Luongo.

The Bruins are the first team in NHL history to win a Game 7 three times in the same postseason, and they drew another dose of inspiration from forward Nathan Horton, whose concussion in Game 3 irrevocably changed the series' momentum.

Horton attended Game 7, and he apparently poured a bottle of Boston water onto the ice in front of the Bruins' bench 90 minutes before warmups.

Horton was lost for the series with a concussion on a big hit from Vancouver's Aaron Rome. The Bruins rallied for four wins in five games after Horton's injury.

During a two-week Stanley Cup finals that ranks among the NHL's weirdest in recent years, the only predictable aspect had been the home teams' dominance. Vancouver eked out three one-goal victories at home, while the Bruins won three blowouts in Boston.

The other side of the coin:

Quote:
1 million fans turn out to celebrate Bruins' Cup win

BOSTON – Forward Shawn Thornton is one of the toughest Boston Bruins, and he was one of two B's who had already been through the experience of winning and celebrating a Stanley Cup victory.

But Saturday's "Rolling Rally" parade to celebrate the Bruins' first championship since 1972 – a celebration that drew about 1 million Stanley Cup-starved fans to the streets of Boston -- left quite an impression on Thornton.

"It was more overwhelming than I expected," he said after he and his teammates' procession on Boston's famous Duck Boats was complete. "It was an unbelievable turnout. I didn't know that many people lived in Boston, let alone would be on the streets today. It was an awesome, awesome experience."

In some ways the "Rolling Rally" was a culmination of four days of celebrating after the Bruins won Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final by beating the Canucks 4-0 in Vancouver on Wednesday. But it also marked the beginning of a summer of partying for the Bruins and their newly won Cup, which will spend time with each and every one of them over the course of this offseason.

Even before the parade, the Bruins were feeling the love from the Boston faithful as they carted the Cup to numerous places around town.

"People would tell you, 'this is a hockey town; you've got to do it,'" defenseman Andrew Ference said about fans' urgings to win the Cup. "We kind of played the underdog bit at the end, but throughout the whole year and especially with the last couple of seasons the way they went, there were expectations for us to actually perform and to get the job done. So it's really satisfying to be able to do that, to live up to our expectations but also the expectations of the fans and people in the city."

The day kicked off at TD Garden with some remarks from Mayor Thomas M. Menino, owner Jeremy Jacobs, team President Cam Neely, General Manager Peter Chiarelli, coach Claude Julien and players Tim Thomas, Zdeno Chara, Mark Recchi and Patrice Bergeron.

Neely thanked pretty much everyone in the organization, then stressed what he thought was the key to the Bruins finishing the season on top.

"I mean, you want to talk about a team, this is a team right here," the Hall of Famer said. "To watch these guys grow from (the season opener in) Prague, all the way to their last game in Vancouver, their development, how they bonded, the character of these guys, it's a great, great, great group of players. They have a deep affection for each other and it showed on the ice."

For Recchi, the celebration was among his final acts as an active player. The 43-year-old announced his expected retirement following Boston's Game 7 victory over Vancouver.

"I can't thank the Bruins organization [enough] for making my last few years amazing and getting the opportunity to play with these guys in here now," the three-time Cup winner said. "We started in Vermont from training camp, went to Prague. We played together, we drank together, we lost together, and it never wavered. But the one thing we really did together is we won.

"One more thing: Thanks for the patience on the 39 years -- and the next one will come a lot quicker."

In total, there were 18 Duck Boats in the parade, which featured players, front-office personnel, "Blades" the mascot and others. A well-behaved mass of people lined the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of Boston's newest sports heroes.

"There were too many signs, I don't even remember all of them," defenseman Tomas Kaberle said. "There were some funny ones for sure. It seems like all the people had a lot of fun, and that is what it's all about. You play for the fans and you want to do well and this is obviously -- it took 39 years for Boston to do it and it seems like it was the right moment."

The parade route started and ended at TD Garden. After saying a few words to the media, Bergeron walked back home to the North End and Chara rode his bike through the crowd to his downtown home – a couple of Boston stars rubbing elbows with the masses.

It was the perfect ending to a day that was about both those fans and the players who brought the Stanley Cup back to them.

I was in Vancouver day after the Riot. I saw people genuinely sorry and showing their respect to cops and other fans! Posting few pics I've taken that evening!

Looks like St. Nick Lidstrom decides to postpone his retirement and then wins his 7th Norris. Easily the greatest defenseman to ever play the game ...

Not surprised at Thomas winning the Vezina, Kesler the Selke and Bylsma the Jack Adams. ALL MICHIGANDERS BTW!

Corey Perry winning the Hart WAS a surprise. Then again, the epic failure to show up in the SCF when it counted the most, and utter lack of physicality probably cost Daniella the trophy. Hart goes out to the sisters, NOT!

Intriguing stuff going on with 68. Here's what he said:

Quote:
"In Pittsburgh, I played there 10 years. I still have a house there. I was too lazy to sell it," Jagr told ESPN with a laugh. "Obviously, Mario (Lemieux) is the owner. The team they got, (Sidney) Crosby and (Evgeni) Malkin, plus other great players, if I went there, it would be a lot easier.

"But on the other side, Detroit has great players and play closer to my style, a Euro style. That's a plus. And (Nicklas) Lidstrom is there, plus (Pavel) Datsyuk and (Henrik) Zetterberg -- great, great players."

Sohel

I will have to agree that Lidstrom is the best that has ever played in that position. Never out of position and so effortless. Kudos to him winning the Norris, again..

Perry won because the way he scored goals towards the end. Ducks were at 11th position and he scored 19 goals in like 16 games that catapulted the team to the 4th position in the West. That did it for him. However, you should know that Playoff performance has nothing to do with regular season awards. The votes are done and completed before the playoffs begin. So, Sedin's playoff performance in the SCF had no influence on the voters.

Very proud of Bylsma. 49 wins and 106 points ( second most in franchise ) without great players. Big ups to him.

Part of me wants Jagr back, and another part says No. Lets see. I am ok either way. I will surely like to see his jersey hanging from the rafters one day.

Its a small part that says NO. He is 40 and the style we play, the grinding dump chase of Bylsma, may not be suited for his style at this age. But, I could be wrong. He can still put the puck in the net and hard to move off the puck even at this age. However, he will be huge upgrade to our pathetic PP ( I know we missed some big names )as I see him on the half walls, Sidney behind the cage with Malkin and Letang interchanging the point. Not bad. Rumor has it that Bylsma wants him , but Ray Shero is not completely on board. Plus, we are kinda cap tied with a few others still not signed. Lets see..

Draft is tonight. I expect some trades today. Philly pulled a shocker yesterday by moving "C" Richards and Jeff Carter. Very unexpected. As always, don't be surprised if Brian Burke pulls something bigger to upstage that. Guy is an egomaniac. I am hearing that Stamkos could be in play if Tampa is unable to re-sign him. Of course, Brad Richards will test the market, and Leafs-Rangers and now Flyers in play. Interesting.

Pens will do a minor deal or two. Kenedy's rights will be traded. Niskanen maybe shipped.

I wanna see some solid defs for canucks. Get rid of Ballard, Rome. I still think our offense is amazing when healthy.

Daniel- Henrik- Burrows
Mason- Kesler- Sammuelson
Torres- Malhotra- Hansen
Lappiere- Higgins- Glass with Tembellini, Hodgeson on reserves

Def: Bieksa, Erhoff, Hammy, Edler are all fine. I have a doubt about Salo and so 2 defs are what canucks should look for. Goalies are all fine except i wanna see Cory get more chances.

Lol when i look at this roster if tells me why we dont have the cup. our second line was messed with no Mason, Sammuelson. No Hammy, injured Kesler, Malhotra, Alberts....
but past is past

Right you are. Canucks had some bad bad injuries when they needed them the most. No doubt about that. But, their superstar duo were healthy and they didn't ( couldn't ) step up when it mattered. Canucks lost because Sedin's didn't deliver and Luongo was awful in away games.

We drafted a whole lot of D and Tomas Jurco, a highly skilled 2-way player in Yzerman/Datsyuk's mold. They'll develop in the Griffins over the years but Jurco will probably be fast-tracked.

Quote:
In all, the Wings selected five defensemen, three forwards and a center. Of the nine picks, the Wings landed three players from Canada, two from Slovakia, and one each from Sweden, Czech Republic and France.

Nice to see so many Swedes in the first round. It's about time they get recognized for what they've been offering since the early 90s. Of course the fact that many of their youngsters are developing their games in US (Michigan, Minnesota and Massachusetts) and Canadian schools and juniors now helps.
