and for the record, relevant to the OP...Sir has been a pitiful excuse for a batsman the past couple of seasons. but questioning his overall career record in this context is flat out wrong. but it is what is most recent that counts most, so he deserves a chop.

What we can draw out from this is that Ash is just not the answer as a #3 or #4 batsman. He's just been woeful these last 3 years and he's had enough chances to prove himself but unfortunately he just could not. In 2007 and 2008 he was alright but after that he's lost it completely. Junaid and Rokibul haven't been the answers either in ODIs although they've both been better then Ash. So far, I've liked Mushy at #4. SN should be given a run at #3. Junaid and Rokibul should be tried in tests.

by that logic SN should be the first person to be selected. at the same time, without Tamim we are 4-0. So leaving Tamim out maybe the magic formula.
I am okay with the analysis showing that Ash did not have any meaningful contribution to the wins (maybe with the ball vs. IRE in the WC) but to draw stats to support a conclusion that including him in the XI is a foregone loss is totally unfair.
The players should be picked by role and their performances. And based on that Ash should not be in the team, NOT because he is 'Kufa'.
Its fair to say that on recent performance ash should not be in the team but like you said lets not get superstitious and start blabbering these kufa nonsense and pin down past failures of a whole team on one player. He has been a failure in recent times and so are the others who have also failed with him. Posted via BC Mobile Edition (1)
I don't agree with the logic/argument in the OP even though I'm against including Sir Ash in the team.

This is not a dig at the poster but the above line made me chuckle. It reminded me of every parent in Bangladesh who say about their kids--amar chele/meye khub talented, but ekdom poralekha kore na, thik moto poralekha korle onek bhalo kichu korte parto...
Translation: My kid is extremely talented. Too bad he/she doesn't take their studies seriously. If they did, they could've achieved amazing feats

Even though Ash had the most ability out of all our batsmen but what's the point if you don't take advantage of it? Doesn't that require talent to fulfill your potential?
Bangladesh is still better off without Ashraful. He is bad for team morale. Can you imagine if he walked out to bat at No 7 instead of Riyad against Sri Lanka? We probably wouldn't have reached the Asia Cup final.
I dont see ash getting into our batting lineup, but if we cud give a chance to SRK then why no Ash? he is a better bowler than sharapova and def. better fielder (messing around)
Fast forward to 2012. I am going to frame the comment, "he had it, now he doesn't." He forgot how to play even his Eid innings!
