Raju bowled quite a few good deliveries and seems to get better with every spell. I can see what the coaches see in him. He needs to manage the number of wayward deliveries he bowls, especially during his first spell. That can happen with time as long as the coaches keep the faith in his exciting potential, and he nurtures the desire with solid work on his own.

I hope so but I doubt if all players are like shakib ... Who barely plays domestic but somehow really does good in intl... I hope he does not follow SRK path

Other than the BPL and DPL, our domestic cricket ranges from the totally non-competitive (NCL) to less non competitive (BCL), so I tend to take numbers generated there with a cup of salt. The utter lack of match reporting, we only get a purely statistical narrative from our journos, deprives us from the qualitative context necessary to assess whether those domestic numbers are even remotely comparable to FC and List A stats from other test playing nations, and can in fact indicate a players readiness for the highest level.

That being said, better players should logically do better in those farcical competitions and put up huge numbers, but they don't the way we expect. Some of those better players have begun to take the NCL and BCL more seriously of late, and we'll see players like Shakib put up domestic numbers worthy of his proven ability on the international stage.

If BCL is so non competitve, then Abul should be ruling the charts with all his talent there instead of leaking runs, as you yourself said? Abul did nothing in any format/competition he's played recently, if I recall.

I can recall even Shahadat bowling a good spell or so per test match - the problem is he leaks a lot of runs otherwise. Same with Abul - and to an extent Rubel. Would love to see Shafiul in the team with Nazmul, I think Shafi is a fine new ball bowler to have.

So are you saying containing bowlers can't take or create wickets in Test cricket?

Have not seen Abul's batting, missed it. Looks like a solid, hungery to stay there (at the wicket) test batsmen down the order.

he certainly has potential but he needs to work on consistency so he can pressure the batsman into a wicket, needs to bowl to a plan to try and get a batsman out. well the same can be said of all the bowlers.

solid for a bowler, he's never going to be an allrounder, should definitely work on his bowling. with abul the batting stuff is a bonus, i'm not saying neglect the batting because he's a good solid tail end batsman who if he gets a good chunk of time in this team will score some valuable runs for the team but he needs to figure out his bowling first. he has decent technique and most of the time seems to want to stick around. i guess you'd put him in the mould of gillespie, mcgrath (late career), finn, steyn etc. capable of scoring some runs and even some pretty big runs at times but they'll never do it consistently.

He leaks more runs than he could ever recover with the bat. Short pitch and wayward lines all throughout his short career and i don't see what progress he is making as a bowler so far.

i think probably for tests they should start to look at bowlers who bowl decent lines and lengths. abul has talent, but i think he'd learn to be a better bowler by playing more ODIs than tests. in the shorter formats pacers need good accuracy, control and variations, all of these things would benefit abul.

The way the team is playing, poor Abul will not get that much chance with the bat.

He used to be a batsman in his early age, so who knows, if he can survive as a bowler, he can be our FB all-rounder in future.

Looked awful yesterday. Was beaten 3-4 times in a row by Mathews and was lucky to not edge anything. Moot point, he's not there for his batting.
