Laptop Battery Help
Ok, so I dropped my Sony Vaio on the floor yesterday and remarkably the screen or anything didn't break. The only thing that did break is the AC adaptor socket on the laptop. Now when I try to connect the mains, it does not charge. So now my battery power has completely run out and I cannot turn on the laptop as the AC adaptor is not working.
I just wanted to know if the AC adaptor socket is fixable? If not, is there any other way to charge the battery pack?

If you have a coverage from the store that you purchased your laptop from, you may be able to get that fixed.
Adapter sockets may not be that big of a deal.
I don't think you can charge your laptop by any other means, other than using someone else's viao to charge yours!

Check ebay. You'll find something, less than $20.
But I never heard that they don't give their adapter. Is that the new strategy to make things look less expensive? If so, that just sucks.

Abdul,
If your VAIO is pretty old then consider buying a new one. I have a VAIO myself, it is a very neat machine but repair cost can be very expensive. I bought mine for $2900, so if I was you then I will either consider repairing it or buy VAIO notebook port replicator - http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...th=32009n32220
These port replicators are pretty expensive. You can try to look for it in e-bay. Also, do talk to your local sony service centre and ask them how much it may cost to repair the AC-input port. May be then you wanna make a decision to buy a port replicator or repair your laptop.
Bancan,
That is very strange! Where are you buying it from? Try Best Buy or Futureshop, they should have a pretty good deal. I would suggest not to buy a laptop that does not come with an AC adaptor as that would mean you'll have to spend extra money on the AC Adaptor.

Go towards the bottom of the page. In accessories. No adapter. I cant afford to spend 150 on a adapter.

Hmm...it could be a typo OR else it may have other source of power like port replicator. A new laptop would not come without a power source. Did you call futureshop and query about it? If you've not then I suggest that you do.
Yes, you're right it does not make sense to buy a new laptop without an AC adapter. If it holds true, then may be it would be wise to find something similar that comes with an AC adaptor.

It's strange indeed. Let us know what you find out at FS.

thats why you should buy insurance with laptop. my ac adapter socket got broken and couldn't power it on for few days, then tried hours after hours to find a suitable angle and got that too. then i tied my laptop with my desk so that it doesn't move. my laptom became a desktop and used that for couple months like that.

Ebay's the best for getting parts once your laptop's out of warranty. Bought my gf a $27 keyboard for her Dell, and a friend of mine got a Compaq adapter socket for around $60 for his 4 year old laptop. Some computer people had told my gf that it would cost around $300 for the keyboard and HP had said to my friend the part would cost a ridiculous amount (sth like $500+)!! Nothing beats ebay.

Thanks for all the replies. The dumb thing was we had insurance all this time and then a few months back, we stopped. Anyway, I took it to a local PC shop and had it fixed. I just got it back now, but it cost me £72. However, it was better than the shop across the road who said he would charge me £120 just to open the laptop and inspect any internal damage. Yeah right mate.
