The criteria should be to look past domestic stats and see how they actually are, those numbers don't tell the whole story always, some also perform better when they play international cricket and some worse because they have been feasting on players of less ability in domestics all the time. Having good stats should be one of the criteria in making the national team but not the only one.

yasir ali's performance is also based on domestic.

If you actually saw him play on TV instead of checking him up on Cricinfo you would realize he has something to work with which was the whole point of my last post that you seemed to have missed
Additionally he is not a tried and tested failure like Reza at international level. He deserves a chance just like Reza got once to show he is not a domestic bully only

I'm surprised they picked a spinner ahead of Taskin for the Ireland series. We already have Shakib and Miraz plus part-timers.

Most of the pitches should be controlled/prepared by ICC not ECB.

Is there any point of keeping Soumya this guy is such a selfish cricketer. He knows that he has to score well every match yet this guy does not change. 197 runs in 10 matches does not show any improvement strike rate below than 80. If he can not score well in Bd league how on earth will he play well against fast bowlers with swing. In Champions Trophy only 34 runs in 4 matches. And there is no way he will play well in every match. Maybe he might score a couple of 20s and 30s and 1 score of 50 is not enough. Last World Cup was different he was new to the international level but now he has experience and he has to realize that he can not throw away good starts.

Doesn't matter. How many teams play 3 finger spinners in England?

How often have you seen a team taking only 3 specialist pacers to England? Yet that's what India opted for.
We should play according to our strength. Matches this WC are expected to be high scoring, and we know our spinners are better at checking runs than our pacers.

We still do not know how Yasir will do in international matches. He should have been included in the team for New Zeeland.
Soumya should be there. He was reasonably good in the past few series. Besides he can bowl and is a good fielder.
Between Imrul and Liton: If Liton clicks BD has a chance to win. Imrul at best can help for a "shonman jonok porajoy". Also Liton is younger. His experience will help BD in future. This is not true for Imrul. We have already seen his best.
Please note than, Mushfique's average was very bad initially. Jammie Siddon saw the talent in him and kept giving him chances and because of that we have a world class batsman now.
Sabbir, Somya, Liton are very talented. We should stick with them for few more years. After all talent does not grow in trees.

I have reserved feeling about the bold comment. 10 years ago, we could afford to give a guy a run in the team for a decade to fix his game. However, we don't have the same luxary anymore. If we let a guy get another decade to get his avg together, we will still be lingering around rank 7-8. Seniors won't play forever after all. This mentality was ok 10 years ago, not anymore.

That's because they also have Pandya and Shankar plus 2 wicket taking wrist-spinners.
Taskin is going to be more of a wicket-taking option than a finger spinner in England.

Not only Mushfique. There are other examples like Rahul Dravir, Sangakara, etc. They were not doing good initially.
We do not have to stick with them tooo long, if we see better prospects. Selectors have tried Anamul, Mominul, another opener who scored two zeros (I forgot the name) etc.. But whenever we see a talent like Miraz or Yasir, we should try.

He scored a century today.
He also scored a century against Windies and Zimbabwe in warm up matches. He's one of our best top order batsmen right now, we don't really have any alternatives.

Good for Soumya to score that century. However, I would feel more assured of him hadn't the match was played some small BKSP training ground.
Taskin had certainly taken a beating.

I don't think Shankar adds much of a value as a bowler, not in ODI. I think India's intent here is to have two specialist pacers and Pandya per match, and let spinners do rest of the job.

Well, selectors and majority of the fans here currently don't want to trust Taskin (who unfortunately is the only viable fast-medium we currently have, with Rubel slowing down considerably). I personally don't see value of having more than three medium-fasts, unless the pitch becomes damp due to occasional rain.
With such lack of variety in our pace department, we will have to rely more on our finger-spinners.

Finger spinners aren't going to get wickets in England. Shakib for example didn't take a single wicket in the Champions Trophy. We need bowlers who can take wickets. Taskin will go for some, but he will get wickets.

^^ Agree with you. The CT'17 showed our medium-fasts (Mash, Rubel, Fizz) are not that much better either when it comes to taking wickets.
But our selectors left out Taskin, didn't bother either to groom another Fast-medium (Khaled/Ebadat) in his place. They decided to go the complete other way - took a medium pacer in Abu Jayed, in hope that they may find a damp pitch by luck in June due to some rain.

You'd think the thinktank consisting of Rhodes (English coach) and Walsh (Extensive experience playing in England) would have expressed this crucial point to the selectors.

Let's take Liton for example: I don't know how hard a player like Liton works on his game behind the scene, am just giving my POV just from watching him play. He has 1 century and 1 fifty after about 20 odd games. That's enough chances to prove himself, don't you think? You would assume that a player would get better each passing game, this fella seems to be always making the same exact mistakes. Ashraful is another prime example, full of talent but mediocore at best.

I understand that Abu Jayed is one of the best swing bowlers in Bangladesh if not the best, but he's just not quick enough to be effective and his list a record isn't anything special.
Taskin is experienced, he's already played a world cup and champions trophy in England and would've had a better strike rate.

lol reza..anyone who looks at the youtube video of reza's wickets this year would understand his level..i shared one of his 5w in this forum..anyone want to see go check that video in why soumya and liton thread..
Almost all his wicket taking balls would have been punched to the moon if our batters had some orange juice..u can bet other team players have had plenty juice of all fruits
