The reason I'm so keen to pick Naeem is because he is in very good form.
I understand your frustration with Anamul. His technique so far does look poor for a Test opener and he hasn't produced the runs we need him to produce so far. However this is the role given to him by the think tank even though he is a no. 3 batter. He was pushed upto open because there were no other available slot for him to fit in. Test opening is indeed a specialist position. You look at any other team and you would find there are a certain group of players who open and it is never a Ponting or Kallis or Dravid even though many times they have to do the job due to early wickets falling. Pushing Naeem upto open is unfair to Naeem because that is not his role. What will happen if he scores a duck? Then we would have destabilized both Anamul and Naeem with one wrong selection.
The short term solution is to drop Anamul but the long term solution is to coach him and develop his game so that he can survive at the role he has been given.

Tamim
Marshall (pretty much opened in the first innings and Anamul doesn't have the skills to open in test)
Naeem
Mominul
Shakib
Nair
Mushfiq
Gazi
Razzaq
Robiul

Sanath Jayasuria, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar

Wish I could pick Zia instead of Rubel. But he is not even in the squad.

Dilshan, Shane WAtson too, Gilchrist may be.

The thing is no other team has suffered as much as we did in finding a second opener, since Tamim came he has always opened for us, but look at the number of guys who were tried but failed, SN,Kaedge,Junaid,Nazim,OweMe & now Bijoy (in Tests).
So we don't have much of a choice then looking for alternatives, Naeem seems the candidate worth trying for.

its really tough being a test openner. normally your best player e.g. those technically good open and most often have more success. sometimes its odd seeing players like Sehwag and Gayle hit tons in Test without being great technical players. I think on that basis lets leave Anamul alone for the next Test match and lets see if he can grab his opportunity.

It is our middle order that wins our matches and not openers. We are very weak in opening both in batting and bowling. It has now become a formality to try pacers for 6-7 opening overs and take them off for spinners to try and get a wicket.

I thought you were looking for domestic cricket too and that's why I have mentioned those two names. If you are looking for tests only, then yes..I cant think of anyone

If only Tests then :
Shane WAtson http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...g;view=innings
and Dilshan http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...g;view=innings

Anyway, the way I think of it which is contradictory to what you might be trying to say is that just because something didn't happen or didn't work out before it won't/can't happen in future.
Before this Test no one took a hattrick & scored a ton but that didn't stop Gazi, did it?

al amin for rubel otherwise no changes. i would have taken probably sunny instead of razzak but he's not in the squad obviously. as far as batting only change i would consider would be naeem for marshall.

Unfair to drop Marshall after just one test, he didn't do so badly. Who would have thought we were in the position to have so much options to fill our middle order

If only we had the same problem with the top order.

That is tamim, but he needs to get his act together. I know anamul has his technical issues but I think if he gets a good score then he'll feel like he can play at the test level and I think once that happens then he'll be pretty good (we say the same about jahurul but jahurul doesn't have the same ability to score tons like anamul).

Anamul needs to be dropped. Let him perform in this years NCL and than give him another chance for the SL series early next year. He does have a lot of potential and these performances are not helping his confidence level. Next test we will see either Gillespie or Wagner replacing one or both of the spinners. With more seam options, Anamuls chances of performing becomes even worse.

Raj does not deserve another chance. In a country loaded with SLAs it does not make sense to give the bowler who failed for the majority of 87 overs another chance. Hate this attitude by our mgmt. Just because we had a draw does not mean there is no room for improvement. Should have drafted Enam Jnr or Noor Hossain or even Elias Sunny for the XI.

Would be most unfair to drop Marshal. he is our top performer of the NCL and he performed on par on his debut. his approach was perfect when he collapsed and was also proper when had to go for it. Didnt see much flaws in his batting either

Wouldn't drop anyone and risk changing a good test match combination!

Rubel has been erratic but what proves Al-Amin will be better? Rubel's first class record has been outstanding this season and the best of the league, both the team's pacemen didn't fare well and they must be given another chance in Mirpur.

Razzak is the weak link in the bowling attack in my opinion, he is very very easy to play in test without any hurry to get runs, however he can bowl long spells and takes the workload off Shakib and Gazi. By that virtue alone, I will keep him and honestly the thought of Sunny, Enamul or any other spinners doesn't excite me. I would ask Mushy to please try out Marshall's legspin, wonder why that was never even thought of in the test match. Variety leads to mistakes in adjustments! Duh!

Anamul needs to work on his batting a lot! But the less being said the better at this stage because he is only 2 tests old, but he is exposing some major faults in his technique, sad to see that. I think he will score a fifty in the 2nd test match.

Yeah, keep it simple Akram and Bashar; same team but come out with more strategies, Mushy needs to manage bowlers more. See how it goes.

Newbies, especially those with talent, need prolonged exposures. Same folks calling for Anamul's head now also wanted Mominul to be replaced with far less talented Naeem. Rubel and Razzak need to be thrown out for good. Al Amin can't be any worse.

Tamim
Anamul
Marshall
Momin
Shakib
Mushy
Nasir
Gazi
Robiul
Enamul Jr (among those in the squad then Naeem and just bat him at 8).
Al Amin

I am disappointed with the spin attack. This time I want a 100% spinning track and I want to play with 8 batsman. I will drop Razzak.
1.Tamim Potani Khan
2.Anamul
3.Marshal Ayub
4.Mominul
5.Shakib
6.Mushy
7.Nasir
8.Riyad
9.Gazi
10.Robiul
11.Rubel

My squad,

Tamim
Naeem
Marshal
Mominul
Mushfiq
Nasir
Shakib
Riyad
Gazi
Robiul
AlAmin

Yes I want Shakib to bat down the order. After all he is an allrounder and does not deserve to bat higher than Nasir or Mushfiq. Raj was a waste so bring in Riyad i say. Riyad has much more to offer than poor old Raj in terms of batting and in bowling too he is often a partnership breaker. Rest rubel and bring in Al Amin simply because he wont do worse.

No doubt about Razzak contribution but we can use Mominul and shakib wisely to full fill SLAs need..having Naeem may give a boost in batting.. But whom he will replace
