BPL Press Release: BPL T20 franchises to replace Pakistani players
DHAKA, Wednesday, 16 January 2013
Media Release
BPL T20 franchises to replace Pakistani players
The BPL Governing Council today instructed the seven franchises to select replacement players after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) declined to provide no objection certificates (NOC) to its cricketers for participating in the second edition of
the tournament which kicks off tomorrow (Thursday, 17 January) with matches starting Friday.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan said that the door has closed for Pakistani cricketers in the BPL 2013: “The BPL would go ahead without Pakistani players. We have been informed by the PCB today that it will not issue NOC to the cricketers. With the competition just two days away this is an unexpected and uncalled-for situation. Even if players from Pakistan turn up now they will not be allowed to play in the BPL.
“The second edition of the BPL is a challenge for us. We are focusing on making this year’s tournament bigger and better than the last time. We have also communicated with the franchises and have told them to choose replacements from the list of unsold players in the auction or pick anyone else outside that list subject to availability.
“We have spoken to a number on national cricket boards and I can tell you that we have adequate replacements. I am very confident that we are going to have a successful BPL.

Thats not going to happen but I can clearly see they will try something to ruin it. But they will fail.

Sure...they can have 6 afgan players in each team. Pakistan actually can play a big role in cricket globalization by drafting some guys from Iran and Iraq and make them play in PPL or PSL or whatever that fish may be

Good decision but I still can't believe it took them this long. Its pretty much given that PCB is going to delay as long as they possibly can because they want BCB to crack under pressure. If this decision was taken at least week ago, franchises would have more than enough time to get replacement players.

As far i know the pakistani players are ready to get on board. but it is the pakistani board or more precisely the legendary zaka ashraf who is ruining the party. so instead of life time ban i guess as long as zaka is there no pakistani for bpl or any bilateral game agaist pakistan should be held.

Yeah, I also think Zaka Ashraf should be published. So no Pakistan players in his era. But players were eager to play so they shouldn't be punished because of Zaka.

Thank you PCB for this wonderful decision. Prior to this we, the bangladeshi fans were seriously embarrassed in the manner Mostafa Kamal made false promises to you and then backed out. The truth is We, the fans, never wanted our players to tour pakistan under the present security situation but we still felt badly about the way BCB handled things regarding the tour with all the flip-flopping of decisions. We know pakistan is a quality cricket side and if the safety of our players were not at stake we would have played you happily in your country but you already knew that... you also knew that no other team will go to pakistan. It is evident from how you were not even half as persistent you were with other teams compared to us. We were probably a good target to bully and bribe your way into a short series through under the table dealings at ICC meetings. We were probably the ideal guinea pigs to test your cricket venue security.
Now with your decision to withhold NOC for your players you have dealt an equally low blow to us and saved us from feeling any guilt for not fulfilling the commitment made by one selfish BCB administrator. A nation's will can sometimes be very powerful. Your players played in the first BPL. While it is true that they brought quality to our tournament, it is also true that all those players got the limelight and exposure in our tournament which they have been deprived of in IPL. If it made BPL more glamorous, it also gave a platform for your players to showcase their talent and earn some extra money. The tournament will still go on despite whatever difficulties the absence of the pakistani players causes us and I bet BPL 3 will learn from this year's mistakes as well.
All the best to your high quality T-20 league that is coming up. I am sure the boys can prepare well given the extra time. Thank you once again for this timely decision.
