Default Books on Cricket

I thought it would be nice if there was a thread for the members of BC to share their thoughts on interesting books they had read on or about cricket. It could be something technical like Ian Pont's The Fast Bowler's Bible or of historical interest like Ramachandra Guha's A Corner of a Foreign Field or a cricketer's autobiography that you really enjoyed.

It would be nice if you could also say a few words about why you enjoyed that particular book.

I suspected that there would be a thread on this topic but I couldn't find it. I looked for threads on favorite cricket books but I didn't see it when I took a cursory glance at the just cricket thread or when I searched 'book' in the search bar. Maybe it's because the last post on that thread was on July 16, 2008?

I have a few books on cricket that I quite enjoyed but I don't know whether I should bump that relatively old thread? If so, then it would be best to delete this thread. Sorry

(I hope that it's OK to bump this thread as this is a topic that one wouldn't have updates on regularly? It's also more recent than Zee's thread quoted above)

This a list recently published by Cricinfo of "books that it would recommend on cricket"

An interesting list but I feel that as cricket is a sport with great socio-political context, the list is a bit lacking because it does not mention such fantastic books as "Beyond a Boundary" by CLR James and "Corner of a Foreign Field" by Ramachandra Guha. Still, I look forward to reading Peter Roebuck's season diary as well as the intriguing book on cricketers who have committed suicide (after reading Ed Cowan's excellent article on depression in cricket, it seems like a very interesting topic)

Cricket International Publishing have just brought out an ebook novel about cricket. It tells the story of how a mystic not far from Bangladesh who goes to coach a cricket club in Northern England, UK.

It is called "Guile and Spin" and is written by Stuart Larner
