It's very possible that umpires back in time made plenty of mistakes too, but then we did not have technologies to catch those mistakes.

I'm always wondering how many close run outs and stamping were ruled out by them because it's impossible to judge from naked eye.

I actually enjoy bad umpiring when the match is between England and Australia. People like Ricky Ponting are always against the introduction of technology, because they get the advantage of bad umpiring most of the time. Australia is right behind England in getting umpire's favor.

The introduction of technology might be a blessing for cricket, but I doubt if proper judgement will still be made. Such stuffs were introduced in a West Indian series and the umpires were far from correct. The problem is, it gave the third umpire enough power to make judgement of his own and therefore, it was not all technology, the mistakes that the on-field umpire could make, would now be made by the third umpire.

If there is a reliable technology available, then one should take the most use of it, releasing the umpires from their guessing work. For example, with hawk-eye, just see if the ball pitched not outside the leg and let it extrapolate the trajectory to see if it hits the stumps. If it hits, that's OUT without wasting time.

If it is a catch, use snicko and hot spot. May be, the technology is not intelligent enough to provide solutions to all situations; but why not accept what it offers? In that WI series, umpires did not let the Hawk-eye extrapolate the trajectory and did some guessing work, which was wrong many times.

Speaking as someone whose team was on the receiving end of some poor umpiring decisions in the 2nd Test, it has (still) always been my opinion that poor umpiring decisions will happen. End of day you should be good enough to overcome umpiring decisions, weather and other factors that are outside your control. Do your best with what you CAN control so hopefully what you can't won't be an issue.

Even though OZ did well considering how bad we played to get to 404, the fact is that if we had scored 50 more in our first innings, and if we had restricted England by 25 runs in their first and another 25 in their second 2nd innings we would have been in with a good shout. As it was we weren't good enough to overcome. You can't use umpiring as an excuse when your tailenders scored more than your top order in one innings, or when your spearhead concedes 6rpo in his first 11 overs and gives the game away.

You can't control umpiring decisions - some days they go your way, others they don't. You would like to think that they will be correct 100% of the time, and referrals will help reduce the level of error, but end of day you need to take that out of the equation as much as possible, and create a scenario where those errors don't affect the outcome of the match.

Think about it though. How many really good umpires are there? I can name 2 - Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar. Billy Bowden is not that good, but he's not that bad at least. The rest are ordinary (Harper, Koertzen) or hopeless (Doctrove, Ashocka).

Taufel and Dar can't stand in every Test unfortunately (in Taufel's case, he can't stand in any of our (OZ's) Tests at all).

Shakib Al Hasan to Kieswetter, no run, oh dear! Trapped bang in front but somehow given not out, replays show it crashing into leg stump and Kieswetter is a very luck man

Shakib Al Hasan to Morgan, no run, massive appeal from one that looked as if it caught the inside edge, on to the pads and to the wicketkeeper. This time Mushfiqur caught the chance but the umpire turned it down, looked like he hit it

This is what Rod Tucker done to us todayEven a half-blind man would give both of them out.....He should be ashamed of himself

I can't take this kind of easy decision going against us in every match

Also Mashrafe was not out.
That ball struck outside the line of off stump.

So the Tucker saga begins!
episode one: Shakibs dropped catch, we lost nz test
episode two: 3 outs not given: why BBC don't call those rotten decisions?
Episode three: 4 clear out will not be given: bd loses odi 2

and the saga continues....

Cricket is a sport, played by umpires.

why does BCB have no BALLs at all ?? Why cant they start letting ICC knw abt some wrong decisions against us by some particular Umpires. If Aus, Pak, Ind can cry abt umpiring, whats holding our back then ?

23.5
Tredwell to Imrul Kayes, no run, 52.4 mph, oh close again! Big appeal as Imrul attempted a heave into the leg side, but the umpire declines. Looked very close

28.5

Collingwood to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, 68.0 mph, dropped oh my, what an absolute howler! Stuart Broad drops the simplest of chances at deep square leg from a top-edged sweep. Tried to take it with his fingers pointing up, but went through his hands, hit him on the face and well to the ground

Musfiqur was 24 when he was dropped.

Happens to all teams. Drop catch. Close calls everything happen to other teams as well.

It is hard to beat England when they are playing 13 against Bangladesh 11!!

Still almost lost. What a shame!!

Bangladesh team can keep their heads high as they played against 13 players instead of eleven.

This 3 missed LBW rebuild England innings. England would be 146 for 6 if umpire would get the LBW's right.

It doesn't work like that. Teams change the approach according to the situation. So many marginal calls have gone against so many teams. They all managed to overcome and win it In one dayers i rarely see umpires giving out leg before. This has been the case for years. It looks so bad because of hawk eye and all those facilities. Umpires don't have those things. They just have to make decisions in split seconds. Even plumbest of plumbs have been declined in one dayers. Benefit of doubt generally goes in favor of batsmen in one dayers. Teams have come to accept it. You have still won 4 leg before decisions don't you? These are all just excuses.
