Default Is it possible for BD to win?

Only 4 months left in this year, still BD has lots of Test and ODIs left to play within this year against Test playing nations.

Do you think we can record any winning matches out of them? or a draw? how about individual performances? who will get 100s?

Before getting some respectable draws I cannot think of a win in tests. It would nice if they can win few ODIs this year. I hope they will.

Theres always a possibility to win if our luck favours us. But whatever the case, we should not get disheartened... Compared to other teams we have achieved Test status rather hurriedly. I am sure we can muster up a win; it is bound to happen some time in the future. One cannot always lose

talking about ICC champion's trophy: I can't think there gonna be a win for us. but, i've a feeling that if there is gonna be an upset, it will be caused by nafis.

if we dont achieve a win in champs trophy then our best chance of either a test or odi even a series win is against new zealand next month in bangladesh. We have a realistic chance of winning becos we will b playing against one of the weaker test nations on home soil, also the kiwis main strike bowler shane bond wont b available and there is a chance mashrafee might be available for us. it'll also b interesting to see how the kiwi batsmen cope against our left arm spinners on slow pitches. So an upset looks rather likely in the near future.

NZ is not that weak. Last year they toured India and drew the test series there, something which even Australia has been unable to do.

Default winning a match in ICC

To win we will need the good old equation of putting some run on board and then just do tha basic and expect the opposition to falter. with due respect 'bahubole' jeta hoyto hobe na.. Unless off course someone plays ablinder and get a formidable score.. Just the way Kenya have beaten India on two occasions.. Probably, underdogs have never caused an upset by chasing even a small total.

we can do it with South africa or Windies. With the latter we almost defended a very small total.

But our only win (ODI) against Kenya was a super effort... chasing . but without that superlative Rafique innings..who knows!!!

I think NZ is a good team. They don't have big stars but there are a lot of good cricketers in that team. And don't forget Flemming - the most "cerebral" captain in world cricket now. Nevertheless, we need a win. Because if we keep on losing like this- the materialization of an "n-tier" system will be just a matter of time. There are already a lot of people who are baying for blood and at least to keep their mouth shut we have to perform well.

Talking about the upcoming Champion's trophy, the present situation of the BD team doesn't look so bad to me as it was during the Asia cup. The top orders batsmen are getting runs (in the practice matches)- especially Nafis Iqbal seems to be in a good form. So now we have Javed Omar, Ashraful, Nafis, Rajin and Aftab- who can score some runs. Any given day, if any two (even three?) of them get on going- we will be able to put some runs on the board.

Apart from that, Shujon is also in a good form. As a matter of fact, I think he is our main strike bowler now. One reason we failed against Scottland in the second match was we didn't have Shujon. On the other hand, Tapash will try hard as always- no problem there. The question is who will be the "third bowler". Shall we use Tareq, or pick up Nazmul? Unfortunately both of them are quite expensive some times. Mushfiq may be economical but he lacks wicket-taking ability in my point of view. After all he is an allrounder, not a full-time pace bowler. It seems that, the only way left for us is to use the a part-time bowler (i.e. Rajin) skillfully. This strategy reaped good rewards in the USA match as the captain himself claimed two wickets as a part-time bowler. Rajin's bowling ability shouldn't come as a big surprise- because his bowling survice proved very useful in the series against Pakistan.

The conclusion is- if the top order clicks and also the bowlers bowl well, we have a chance in the Champion's trophy itself and may not have to wait so long till the NZ series.

Default sujon and formation of team..

dear Warlock,

some caveats regarding the performance of sujon... in all these tour matches he did not take the new ball. Obviously he had a greate figure, but these are not against top batsman... against these batsman mara khawa is discredit, i am not sure bhalo figure creditworthy ki na.. then again Tapash last overe noballe boundary concede koreche..that is the level worst one can do....

Cacha is giving his best, as he has always done. But she je ekhono khelche the very fact speaks of "our dainnata in talent"..amra ar kauke pachchi na to fill in... ...

Obviously he will be in the starting eleven.. I hope he does not have to share the new ball... which will again mean we have to play with one fewer batsman (in fact one can say two batman short, as some teams are playing with seven GOOD batsman).

I saw a fair bit of NZ this summer in England. They are a very good one day side and were unlucky in the tests. Even without Shane Bond. Cairns will have retired but they still have a great middle order of allrounders.

Sorry, BD!

Indeed the kiwis are a very potent one day side. Unlike the top tier teams like India, Australia, Pak, SL etc..they rely heavily on all rounders, whereas the other teams mentioned go with the approach of specialist players in each positions. Both effective, if you have the players that is. England is also going the kiwi way with a team full of all rounders. In our case, though the emphasis is on the later approach ( multi skilled ), I am afraid we don't have the quality in all rounders to go that way. We need to go the specialist route by picking at least six batsmen, wkt keeper and four specialist bowlers. Its imperative that the likes of Rajin and Ash become better bowlers for the sake of a balanced one day side. All the specialist batsmen dependent teams have taken that approach and became quite succesful. Ex: tendulkar, jaysuriya, gayle, shoaib malik..all are quite good one day bowlers as well.

If we can click as a team as we have done is some of the practise matches
then we may have a decent chance against our two opponents, otherwise we would have to look forward to the test match between New Zealand.:cool2:

Default Right way of expecting?

probably the question shud be more like this:

"Can we recover the horribly bad patch that we are having in our Batting in the Champ. trophy??"

Like everything else, batting takes much practise. Maybe our batsmen should spend months on their own meditating in the forests and honing their skills to the limit by facing bowling that exceeds 110mph

Seriously though, they have to become a bit more professional in their endevour to become a winning team for a change. They need to show dedication and passion to their batting by using their brains. How often have we seen them get out due to silliness?

We would have won more games if we toured Zimbabwe few months later :bald:. We may win a game aganist the WI in the ICC Chams Trophy, but other than that we should not expect anything unexpected. Folks, please don't say that the Kiwis are a weak side. That's history. Now they are one of the most powerful cricket nations. If you don't belive me, check their recent stats and ratings.

I don't think that BD will win any matches this year. But have a great chance to win some matches in the following next year when BD meets Zimbabwe at the home ground.

Well I think Bangladesh has the potential to beat Zimbabwe and that too on home ground. It would be sensational; Bangladesh beats Zimbabwe. But there is added pressure due to this very fact. Beating Zimbabwe will be a great way to end this year on a high
