Why do we suck?
Isn't this the whole grand-daddy of all questions, the Ultimate Riddle, we are trying to solve? Now before you go all "The Lottery" on me...take heart that I am by no means a follower of the Official Everything type of thread to dump all into one single bin of knowledge. I bet 20 other threads have this common theme in them, so why not unite them together in one single golden thread!

And for those of you over optimistic followers, take heart in it too to know although I am myself half-full type of person....
THERE IS NO DENYING THAT WE SUCK!!! Stop living in a dreamland thinking we will take over the world tomorrow with one single match. As tonoy's addiction recovery thread suggest, first step is to get out of denial.

The average middle/lower middle/upper middle class Bangladeshi person's daily routine:
1. Wake up in the morning feeling not at all like P.D.
2. 5ta ruti, ek kaap chaa
3. Crawl to work an hour or two late
4. Shingara, adda, chaa @ 1100 hrs
5. Leave work an hour or two early
6. Late lunch @ 1500 hrs, menu: 3 plate bhaat + side(s) (gorur mangsho hoile kothai nai)
7. Afternoon nap, let the fat settle down in all the wrong places
8. Evening snack - bulky items such as chotpotti, samosas, boot, etc.
9. Late dinner @ 0000 hrs - same as lunch
10. Go to bed right after, let the fat settle down in all the wrong places
Result: Huge belly at 22 for men, after marriage for women.

LMAO, that's exactly what a lot of people do in Bangladesh. Especially upper-middle class people.

I've seen uncles read newspapers at parties in the midst of all the hoopla, singing, dancing and socializing. I want to be like that when I grow up.

Lawl. Most Bangladeshi Abbas have bhuris. Seriously, their arms are tiny - weak and frail - yet they have a gut which happens to be horribly out of proportion when compared to their small bodies. Hilarious really.

Hahaha nor is mine. I didn't mean everyone. I'm sure your father is beautiful. I should probably edit the post in that case so as not to offend any Abbas. Apologies.

Awesome thread.
The problem is no one wants to take hold of things themselves or take the the initiative themselves like Tamim Iqbal is doing right now. We like to be followers I guess.
its not about wanting something...its about deserving it.

we suck because...of getting tooo many awards after winning one game or playing well in one series...we cant learn from our mistakes....selectors are lazy and afraid of dropping players

On a serious note: There is probably no single answer to why we really suck. When the whole country sucks in politics, education, economy, beautiful girls ( kidding), why would sports be any different? There are sparks, ignition, noise of the engine roaring but never a solid going towards the destiny. We lack professionalism in all areas... we are looking for short-cuts, looking for sensation, crowd pleasing efforts and recognition. So none is willing to do the grunt work to develop the team grounds up. You have a moron political president, un-intelligent selectors, a dumbo manager for a team.. what do you expect? We suck because the we think that Ashraful is irreplaceable, we suck because we think Riad/Mushfique is a number 7/8 when Imrul/Raqibul is 2,3. We suck because the captain 'relaxes' at the dressing room and take India lightly when we are 100 runs away from innings defeat... We suck because by nature we are born to be craving for a blanket in a rainy day and nap listening to Tagore music and think life is good.. why compete?'shokor al-hamdulillah'..

It's simple, you can't teach someone to read and write by enrolling them in a PhD, they have to start with Kindergarten first.
We really have to build up our domestic infrastructure first, there's no shortcut.
