Default The Mustafizur Rahman Thread

It's sickening that how many guys already want him playing for national team. Guys seriously? Really you want Mustafizur in the national team now? Did you ever see him bowl? Whats his performance than one season? How quick is he? What type of bowler is he? Is he boult like, starc like or wahab like? Or he is another rahat fateh ali khan? I bet you dont know. Still you want him in the national team. If we want raw guys like Liton, Mustafizur so early in the national colours, we wont be able to move forward. Its a recipe for disaster.

/rant

I hope he does have a good future.

Um, a picture of this guy would be ideal as this is his Official(?) thread, stats even. I don't know a thing about him...

This thread is one year too early.

I am hoping that Mustafizur will be the replacement for Mashrafee in ODIs, though I doubt he would be of much use in test matches due to lack of express pace (below 140k). His stats suggest that he bowls wicket to wicket with good line and length.

As a "Medium-Fast" bowler he will make a good replacement for Mashrafee next year.

Stats are promising, pretty tall, leftie. Was neck and neck with Taskin in terms of wickets and economy in the recently concluded Ncl.

Bellow 140k if he isn't a big swinger, he will be trashed pretty soon

Our domestic stats don't speak much .. Need pace from a pacer, without that, waste of time

His stats are promising. Pretty close to Taskin's age and he is a left-arm bowler which would help us.

For right now he should focus on domestic matches and get more experience. Don't think he is as much as talented like Taskin but if he can continue his performance, maybe we could try him in the T20 format.

Thats just plain stupid, maybe if you said below 130..

Line and length is way more important that speed, Pollock and McGrath could not swing it and bowled around 130..they got a bit of seam off the pitch and bowled great line and length..Just look how great they were

Another more realistic example, Zaheer Khan, Early on in his career he used to bowl 137kph+, but during his prime from about 05-08, He was a much better bowler, he never swung it that much either, only in certain conditions did he swing it, and in India bowl did little, yet he was great using line and length

Look at Bresnan, dropped now, but for his he'll be our best test bowler, Couldn't swing it, no great bounce, just line and length at about 83mph/135kph - he was a really good reliable bowler

Broad - no great speed, for about 5 years now bowling at an average of about 83mph, Cant swing it great amount, recently bowling a bit quicker but average was 84mph vs WI

I can go on - you don't need to be 140+

If he can get a bit of seam off the pitch with good line and length, he can be a very good bowler even bowling at 130-138

---

'domestic stats don't speak much' - Agree on that, 'On Mustafizur...Never seen him play, has anyone?

Yes pace is not everything and for the blokes who dont have pace should rely on seam/swing and line/length. These skills are not easy to develop and need time. That is why its mportant that he plays domestic games or for under 19s/A team more and more.

Ideally a pace bowler should start career with good pace (140+) and then develop variety (seam, swing, line/ length etc) as he matures over time.. Wasim Akram, Imran Khan or even our own Mashrafe are good examples of that.

Young medium pacers may have success in English and newzealand pitches, but it's tough going in flat tracks in subcontinent. One of the main reasons why hardly any Indian pace bowler went on to became world class.

Not necessarily all of young prospects got to bowl 140k plus. Around 135k ish is good enough if there is control. Chaminda Vaas is a great example. But yeah if there is pace, it adds that x factor

Yes all those bowlers don't depend on pace.. They rely on line and length consistency and seam and swing.

But if needed they can bend their back and take the batsman on the backfoot. Or initially in their career they used to be speed stars. This creates a doubt in mind of batsman to come in the front foot and convert the short of good length balls into half volleys.

Remember syed rasel.. He had great control of line length and seam. But never had the ability to bend the back and keep the batsman on back foot. Which is important these days.

For a medium pacer to succeed; they have to be exceptionally good with line and length, variation and swing. Also, it depends on the quality of bowlers on the other end; Chaminda Vaas had Murali, Mcgrath had Brett Lee ,Pollack had Donald and Aaquib Javed had Wasim & Waqar as bowling partners... Also mny of the fast medium bowlers we see like Mashrafe, Ambrose, Pollock, Zaheer Khan started their career at 140s then slowed down with age.

One thing that does work in Mustafizur's favor is that he is a left armer; so has variety by default. Secondly, if he can have Taskin and Rubel bowling at 140s at the other end, he can take the role of the third seamer that checks runs and get important breakthroughs. On the other hand, the flat and low tracks in Bangladesh will make it hard for him to succeed as a medium pacer. Even great Mcgrath got massacared in Indian and Pakistani pitches...

Shocked to see him getting a call-up. I think selectors felt that this is ideal time to test youngsters given the strength of the opposition in shorter formats.

it shows how easy to get in national team as a pacer.

I am not upset about his selection, he might come up good.

but he played so little game and never heard his name before this year

I was a bit surprised too.. but since it's only a T-20 I think the selection might work in his favor as he will get the best coaching staff available in the country. Heath Streak's advice along with some fitness recommendation from the trainer may benefit him on the long.

It shows those stats aren't a fluke. The very first time he trained with the national team before the world cup he caught Streak's eye. I don't know if he'll get to play as I'm pretty sure Abul's batting will get him the nod which would be a suicidal move in itself but I'm just stoked this kid has been noticed. I'd pick him for the Tests as well.

See I think it's fine to play him in t20s, he shouldn't play tests yet and as for ODIs it's only if there are injuries because we've got a good pace attack there so this way he gets some international exposure but not too much too soo. Only thing I'd be worried about is if it starts to effect his bowling negatively because t20 can change a player.

Great action, strong run up, great lines and lengths looks one for the future. Needs to add some muscle.
