When will our obsession with ODI end?!
In recent news, South Africa forfeited an ODI series against Australia, jeopardizing their chance to qualify for ODI WC next year - to accommodate a domestic T20 franchise league in their calendar. Ben Stokes, England's hero of the last ODI WC final, today declared retirement from ODI, so that he can focus on Tests and T20I. Discussions are abuzz how ODI is fast becoming a redundant and unpopular format in cricket world.
Yet, going against the trend, as per Cricinfo, BCB is scheduling the highest number of ODIs (59) in upcoming 2023-27 FTP. To put things in perspective, besides Sri Lanka (58) and us, all other boards keeping the number below 50! BCB keep dragging us into a dark hole with this obsession with ODI, taking the focus away from other two formats. When will those idiots wake up and smell the coffee?!

The idea that ODI is becoming extinct is propagated by Indian fans in order to hype up IPL. If ODI is becoming extinct you better believe Test cricket will too.
T20 is not even Cricket, you might as well start playing baseball.
IDK about you, but last time I watched a full game from ball 1 was 2019 WC games. If ODI is becoming extinct, then we got nothing to do with Cricket anymore.
However, I do agree that BCB shouldn't have obsession with ODI.

^^ So, are you saying CSA and Stokes just fell for some Indian propaganda?!
If you're not really following cricket after WC'19, it makes sense that you think ODI is still a popular format.

I don't know about Stokes, but did ODI go away after ABD, McCullum retired?
CSA is taking a calculated risk, they could probably not even get qualified for World Cup which would be nothing short of embarrassment. They also have a beef with Aus for canceling Test series earlier.
I didn't say I don't follow Cricket. I was speaking about actually sitting with friends and family for a big game and watching it live from ball 1 till finish. Truth is most folks just follow it on Cricinfo or for T20 just watch the highlights.
As per Shakib, not many cares about Test cricket in Bangladesh. Once ODI goes, it will be bye bye Cricket at least for Bangladesh.

Not only our future in Test is bleak, BCB's idiocy also turning our T20 future bleak as well. The idiots declared January as the window for BPL for next three years, same window CSA claimed for their T20 franchise league. The CSA league will be sponsored by Indian tycoons, same group of people who owns IPL teams. Meaning BPL will have no realistic chance of recruiting good foreign cricketers moving forward.
As for Shakib, I will not be surprised if he takes the same route as Stokes soon. This guy is way too intelligent not to read the writing on the wall.

What's wrong with ODI? I think ODI is the best format.
Test is dying. T20 is junk.

Back on point, absolutely. ^^^^
If you are doing good on a format, why would you want to ruin it? It's like you stumble upon a system to make millions and then all of a sudden you yourself become a thorn in your way and like: naah it's too easy... we don't deserve it.
You wanna set yourself to win. ALWAYS.

May be because this is the only format we are somewhat decent. We suck at Test and T20s

I personally prefer to watch ODI more than Test and T20. So, I don't mind if they are obsessed about ODI.

Like BCB, some of you fans are just burying your heads in the sand. ODI is unlikely to survive beyond 2027. Once this format is gone, we will fall behind WI, SL, and AFG in all cricket rankings. BCB is being shortsighted and trying to make the most out of ODI tv rights by 2027. Once the format is gone, they will face a major setback in cash flow.

I don't think ODI is going anywhere. It has a rich history.
They may reduce the number of ODI games. That's about it.

BCB got a good deal on test cricket too. What do you want them to do exactly? Scrap test and odi while focus on meaningless T20 games?

Because the main cricket WorldCup everyone gloats about is played in ODI format?
unless T20 becomes the prime world cup format, ODI isn't going anywhere. Test matches, less said the better. If anything needs to be scrapped, it's this format. 40h/week to watch a match LOL. You got to be on welfare and have no life to do that.

It's called multi tasking. At work, you can work and watch the match at the same time. Test match is about endurance and onlt those batsmen with great endurance also perform better in ODI's. Something our batsmen don;t have to this date.

Yes, money has ruined cricket. IPL, SPL, BPL, WIPL, Big bash, The 100 , etc. etc.

Idiot BCB is on collision course over BPL with IPL owners. IPL owners bought teams in both UAE and CSA T20 leagues. Those leagues are scheduled January-March, ie BPL will have no chance to bring in good foreign recruits if BCB sticks to January window for BPL. If they care to save the league, they must pull it back in December.
