আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে এরই মধ্যে তিনটি ‘ডিমেরিট’ পয়েন্ট যোগ হয়েছে সাব্বির রহমানের নামে। গুরুতর শৃঙ্খলাভঙ্গ ও আম্পায়ারকে গালি দিয়ে বড় অঙ্কের জরিমানা গুনেছেন টানা দুই বিপিএলে। কদিন পরপরই বাংলাদেশ দলের এই তরুণ ব্যাটসম্যান সংবাদ শিরোনাম হচ্ছেন নেতিবাচক ঘটনায়। এবার তিনি আলোচনায় এক কিশোর দর্শককে পিটিয়ে!

২১ ডিসেম্বর রাজশাহীর শহীদ কামরুজ্জামান স্টেডিয়ামে জাতীয় লিগের শেষ রাউন্ডে রাজশাহী-ঢাকা মহানগরের ম্যাচের দ্বিতীয় দিনে লাঞ্চের ঘণ্টা খানেক পর ঘটেছে ঘটনাটি। তখন মহানগর প্রথম ইনিংসে ব্যাটিং করছে। সাব্বির খেলেছেন রাজশাহীর হয়ে।
প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী সূত্রে জানা যায়, ড্রেসিংরুম থেকে নেমে সাব্বির যাচ্ছিলেন মাঠের দিকে। এ সময় গ্যালারি থেকে তখন তাঁকে উদ্দেশ করে কেউ একজন ‘ম্যাঁও’ বলে চিৎকার করে। ওই সূত্রটির অনুমান, সাব্বিরের ধূসর চোখের কারণেই হয়তো মজা করতে চেয়েছে সেই কিশোর।

খেলা চলার সময় পরিচিত কাউকে দিয়ে ওই দর্শককে ধরে আনেন সাব্বির। মাঠের দুই আম্পায়ার গাজী সোহেল ও তানভীর আহমেদের কাছ থেকে অনুমতি নিয়ে খেলা ফেলেই সাইটস্ক্রিনের পেছনে ১০-১২ বছর বয়সী ওই কিশোর দর্শককে মারধর করেন এই ব্যাটসম্যান।
বেলা ৪টার সময় ম্যাচ রেফারি শওকাতুর রহমানকে মৌখিকভাবে বিষয়টি জানান রিজার্ভ আম্পায়ার শওকত আলী । ঘটনাস্থলে থাকা আকসুর প্রতিনিধি আহসান হাবিবও ম্যাচ রেফারিকে নিশ্চিত করেন ঘটনাটি । পরের দিন সাব্বির ও দলের ম্যানেজারকে ডাকেন ম্যাচ রেফারি।
ম্যাচ রেফারির সামনে আরও ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে ওঠেন সাব্বির। যদি এটা নিয়ে বিসিবিকে কোনো প্রতিবেদন দেওয়া হয় তবে অসুবিধা হবে বলে ম্যাচ রেফারি ও আম্পায়ারদের হুমকি-ধমকি দিতে থাকেন বলে অভিযোগ উঠেছে। তিনি এও নাকি বলেন, এ ঘটনার বিচারের ভার মোটেও ম্যাচ রেফারির নয়!

ম্যাচ চলার সময়ই ২২ ডিসেম্বর সাব্বিরের বিরুদ্ধে গুরুতর শৃঙ্খলাভঙ্গের অভিযোগ এনে বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা বিভাগে প্রতিবেদন জমা দিয়েছেন ম্যাচ রেফারি শওকাতুর রহমান। কোনো খেলোয়াড় মাঠে কাউকে লাঞ্ছিত করলে শাস্তি হিসেবে সর্বোচ্চ ৫ লাখ টাকা পর্যন্ত জরিমানা ও ঘরোয়া লিগে কয়েকটি ম্যাচ নিষিদ্ধ হওয়ার নিয়ম রয়েছে।
বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা বিভাগের প্রধান আকরাম খান আজ দুপুরে প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘আমি এরই মধ্যে প্রতিবেদনটা শৃঙ্খলা কমিটিকে দিয়ে দিয়েছি। তারা বাকি সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে।’

যদিও ডিসিপ্লিনারি কমিটির ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান শেখ সোহেল জানালেন এখনো প্রতিবেদনটা পাননি, ‘মৌখিকভাবে শুনেছি ব্যাপারটা। যতটুকু শুনেছি তাতে মনে হচ্ছে বড় শাস্তিই সে পাবে। মাঠে সে মোবাইলও ব্যবহার করেছে শুনেছি। ম্যাচ চলার সময় মাঠে মোবাইল ব্যবহার সম্পূর্ণ নিষেধ। প্রতিবেদন পাওয়া মাত্র তাকে ডাকব, তার কথা শুনব। আবার প্রতিবেদন দেখে যদি মনে হয় ওকে ডাকার প্রয়োজন নেই, তাহলে আমরা দ্রুত সিদ্ধান্ত জানিয়ে দেব।’

আজ দুপুরে অনুশীলন শেষে বিসিবি থেকে বের হওয়ার সময় জানতে চাইলে বিষয়টি এড়িয়ে যেতে চাইলেন সাব্বির, ‘আমি কিছু জানি না।’ পরক্ষণেই অবশ্য চিন্তিত মুখে বললেন, ‘দেখি, কী হয়...।’

Sabbbi Rahman has been reported to the disciplinary committee for being involved in an assault of a cricket fan during a National Cricket League match.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the news of a report from the match referee. He said: "We have received the match referee’s report and forwarded to the disciplinary committee."

On December 21, during the second day’s play between Rajshahi and Dhaka Division at Rajshahi’s Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium, Sabbir reportedly told someone to bring in a fan from the stands from taunting him.

Any other half decent board would've already banned the suspected player for foreseeable future from all types of cricket. But u can only dream of something like that to happen in Bangladesh. Obviously the culprit will get away because he's supposedly a STAR player which automatically puts him above the law.

These players start to think themselves as god by seeing their popularity and craze among general people. So unconsciously they feel they are above all.

Also, low literacy handicaps them from foreseeing the big picture.

12 months ban for beating a child and another six months ban for threatening match officials. Another 6 months ban for bringing violence to the game ground - which should be held sacred by any athlete, sportsman or cricketer.

In a business point of view. If the kid hires a good lawyer he can sue and get a huge payout. Can sue for emotional and physical trauma. He can end Sabbirs career right there and then. Heck he can make an extra thousand by getting personal interviews with news companies.

Child abuse is a tradition, in South East Asia, kids get hit. End of story.

Some say it improves character. Personally I am against it as studies have shown most criminals were verbally abused. Lack of representation of youth maybe a factor as to why, we don't see children speaking out against their abusers.

He is trying to follow our beloved Ashraful's footstep. Ash also slapped one fan previously. But this shabbir went above and beyond and slapped a 10 years old boy.

But in BD culture, it is perfectly normal. This incidence is getting this much coverage only because he is a cricketer.

What Shabbir did cannot be justified but racism is also not allowed in cricket stadiums or anywhere else. Doesn't matter if he is 12 or 92.

Calling someone cat because of his eye color is not acceptable. BD school system will need to step up to educate kids.

Bangladesh batsman Sabbir Rahman faces possible punishment after he reportedly assaulted a fan during a first-class match in Rajshahi last week. The incident is said to have taken place on the second day of Rajshahi Division’s National Cricket League game against Dhaka Metropolis.

According to reports, after a supporter made a noise directed at Sabbir during one of the innings breaks, Sabbir took permission from the on-field umpires to leave the ground and then went behind the sight screen to physically abuse the young boy, who had apparently been brought into the playing area by an acquaintance of Sabbir’s.

The incident was supposedly first seen by the reserve umpire who reported it to the match referee, who in turn reported it to the BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan, who then forwarded it to the board’s disciplinary committee. This was as per procedure, since Sabbir is being investigated for a level-4 offence. According to sources, Sabbir was also quite “aggressive” with match referee Showkatur Rahman, when he called him in on the third day of the game to investigate the incident.

Sabbir has faced disciplinary action a number of times in the past, the most severe case of which was in 2016 when the BCB fined him Tk 12 lakh (US$14,000 approx) for “serious off-field disciplinary breaches” during the Bangladesh Premier League.
