Do you think our players have stagefright?
Esp. when Ash gets out with a smile, it makes me wonder if he is there to show-off. Next to cricman, I am his biggest supporter but still it makes me wonder...
Or what else could be to their lack of concentration? Why is it only in World Cup we did so well, but not in other series... because then the whole world is watching...?
Also, is it because DW is such a superhit because of the glitz and glamor?
Thoughts?

Of course they have stage fright. And it's pretty huge too.

The players definitely lack the ability to handle pressure... i think players like shakib, mushy and raqibul are more composed...

yes, sometimes the inability do the very simple things is more than just frightening.
overestimante of the opponent, and perhaps feeling inferior because of the environment and cricinfo media reinforcing it? and constant bashing from the fans produces big time stage freight.
we know about their abilities, they do quite well when it doesn't count, with the exception of few occasions where Bangladeshi players divinely acquire warrior attitude, the rest of the times they just want to avoid the situation and finish as quickly as possible and play famous japanese-desi game called "Harakiri".
problem with harakiri is that, you are only guaranteed success 1 out of 50 tries
on second thought, do not be disheartened, i see progress one millistep at a time, although by this approach, it will be 2028 before we reach # 1 spot in world cricket...
for the moment i think we are just happy to challenge classy oppositions on certain 'moments' or sessions and bash associates for fun.(hopefully next month we beat zimbabwe 4-0) they have improved, watch out!
this brings me to question: do BCB approach cricket professionally, or train their players professionally, i guess being professional would make us boring and outstrip our famous Aftab-Ashraful short term firework type entertainment then throwing it away...

if that is the problem then they need to eat raw duck eggs (paati haash-er dim) with oily parata and fried chicken liver...problem solved..! they will not fear nothing, Inshallah!

I actually think that the problem is that our players are not feeling ENOUGH pressure. Seriously,if a player fails, who's gonna take their place? They feel like they are a lock for the team. Ashraful knows that they will not drop him after what he has done for us. That is the problem. Shakib and Mushy, however, still don't feel like they are locks. They have not been playing that long in the National team so I guess they still feel like they are not assured of a spot. That is why they are still playing smart cricket. I fear what will happen when they do feel like they are "stars". An example of the problem with BD is whats going on in Australia. One of the best players in the world, Ponting, is feeling a lot of pressure just for a couple of bad decisions. That means that Cricket Australia will never make a player feel invincible no matter what they have done before. That is not the case here.

It is now obvious that you maintain a seperate pool of players only for the longer versions and it has become inevitable for BD to follow that path.
There should be at least 4 to 5 seasoned campaigners who can really hold the innings and be grown as specialists for longer version. It is redistribution time.
I am no cricket expert but if you ask me I think that can be the key solution to do well in test including allrounders, bowlers and fielders as well.

personally i think our players are shy, that's why they moochki moochki haashe, dushto chorer moto.. but they are bandor-er moto bandor! alos i am confident when they are at the field only thing they can think of is their 'prem' life.

thnx for posting. i dont agree with the author tho. situations in sri lanka, some parts of india and pakistan are much worse than us and no there the players also dont come in fast racing cars.
also there are many other sub-continent players who are not good in english, had to come from village and were incognizant of the word "physio" too... these are not just viable excuses.
being devoid of resources and low infrastructure should never be used as excuses. if these were the cases, then there would be no need of world cup because by default
aus > eng > s.af. > new zealand > rest of the least developed countries

It's most possibly to do with cricketing from school-age level.. The reason SL/Ind/Pak are competitive as opposed to Aust/SA/Eng/NZ with their strong roots cricket levels, is because they've had school-grade cricket for a while now.. Bdesh have only just started..
When players start playing at a younger age, they obviously gain more experience in how to handle themselves (i.e. stagefright).. Hence the reason Sakib, Mushy have more composure.. They're just used to maturing within themselves while playing and competing at a less than international level.. Ash has been in the international arena for ages now and from a very young age.. He was thrown in the fire too quickly.. Our players don't have stagefright.. they just don't know how to handle the stage limelight which they are not used to.. Over the years, as we get more and more academy players coming from age-group cricket, it will improve.. (I hope)..
