Syed Rasel!!
I have been reading people's squads for the South Africa series and was astounded that how so few of them had Syed Rasel ..I know he is injured but very few people said 'I'll pick him if he's fit' or even mentioned him..now I for one believe Rasel is pivotal for Bangladesh and he should be our opening bowler instead of Shahadat so this thread is for updates on Rasel's rehabilitation if anyone has info please post here.

I am sure that Rasel will be fully recovered for the SA series. This injury usually takes around 5 weeks for complete healing, then after that he has to do physio, then start to practice, so the tour has another 5 weeks to start, so I am pretty sure he will be OK. He was badly missed in NZ.

regardless of fitness, shahadat would probably be a better choice for test.

I am pretty sure we will start SA series with three pacers. Rasel and Sajjadul Islam may both be in the squad. Masri and Shahadat will be definitely playing, I am guessing it will be a fight between Rasel and Sajjadul.

Not much contest, Sajid with more pace, but rasel with a much greater accuracy, and incredible use of swing and seam movement.

Sajid was actually pretty good in his debut. The last test didn't go well for him. May be it will just depend on their form and fitness.

I would play 3 pacers in both tests and ODIs, Mashrafe, Rasel and Shahadat in ODIs and Mashrafe, Rasel and Sajedul in tests. Mashrafe and Rasel should open in both formats

My friend, " he might get injured again" is not a criteria to be left out/chosen.
If he is fit, i'm sure he'd make it to the ODI team as an automatic choice.
About test, if they play 2 pacers, it would be between him and Shahadat.

u got it wrong bro. shahadat has the all time best Test bowling strike rate for any BD player. if he bowls an economical spell, his average will be quite decent.
i would go with a 3-1 attack in tests (mash/rasel/rajib/enam) and 2-2 in ODIs (mash/rasel/razzak/sakib). of course rafique might replace enam.

Even if Rasel is not selected for the Tests, he will be fit for the ODIs. He was badly missed in NZ.

In tests, we need just Rasel and Shahadat, the rest of it will come from Aftab and Farhad Reza. If none of them selected, then we need Mash or Sajid.

This is an old debate and there may be a bunch of similar thread.
It tells you probably why SR should concentrate on ODI as same goes for AR. Compare Shahadat's test career at home to it.
I am surprised to find Shahadat is yet to play a test in Dhaka and look how nicely he came back in the last test against NewZealand and Rasel's bowling against the Indians in Mirpur was barely blunt.

Mortaza in as second choice? You alright buddy? Shahadat and Rasel would get slaughtered all over the park if they were the only pace bowlers.

Mash hasn't shown anything recently that deserves a jaw-drop like this bro.
His recent performances tells me that even my para-protibeshi team er medium pacer can do better than him.

Well Shahadat does get the edge over Rasel in the test XI because of his ability to bowl long spells and bowl well with the old ball. In fact, he's surpassed Mashrafe with his performance in the longer version in recent times.
In the ODI's, however, Rasel is my first choice as far as the pace attack is concerned.

Didn't he get a 4 wicket haul in the first test? I find it hard to believe that we fans have already dropped him from our bowling line-up.

well I think i read it some where his old injury is giving him more discomfort then the new one. His ankle injury that he got in WC before the irland game. and that report( probably from prothom-alo) said he might not be available for SA series because of that injury not the new one...

Does anyone has any news about Rasel's progress with his injury? Have heard that his ankle is giving him problems now. i hope that he at least recovers for the ODIs, because he might not be chosen for the Test matches.
