Default Zimbabwe series pre-tour thread

Less than a month ago. Shakib will be back, will we finally win a series?

As per my calculations (corrections appreciated as the ICC predictor thing wasn't working for me) a Test banglawash will allow us to pass ZIM in the rankings. A 3-0 win would take us to 32 points, and bring ZIM down to 18.

ODI series is important as its the final tune up for either side before the world cup. We will be the two most under prepared sides going into the world cup, with us being the only side in the world to have not toured Oceania in the past 4 years.

Can we stop our pathological collapses? We've had ridiculous collapses every series this year so far.

Zimbabweans are preparing well for this series, while our team will have to deal with Qurbani Eid after effect on back of a T20 series (Asian Games).

As per PA, Hathuri asked for a 3-day warm match (for our boys) befor the Test series. He will have to make the boys really work hard in the two weeks leading to the Test series.

3 day warm up? Against whom? They should play A team but not at BKSP where Javed Omar's forward defense would go for 6.

Interesting to note, that in the proposed new FTP, the next 12 tests vs ZIM will be hosted in BD. We should win at least 10 of those. We're not touring ZIM until like 2021. Wonder why ZC would have agreed to that given its almost guaranteed they will have to face IRE/AFG in the Test Challemge in 2018. Papon certainly negotiated like a champ if its confirmed.

ZIM will be fielding a considerably stronger team than they did against SA and AUS recently. Three players have returned: Craig Ervine, Greg Lamb, and Ryan Burl. Burl is uncapped but is a talented left arm spinning all rounder.

Always good to see whites return to ZIM as that means the ZC is not imminently collapsing. Also lends credibility since ZIM have historically been a white team.

Good news for zim, I hope a few other players will return, I'm sure if they keep improving results a few more will comeback.

Only short term

Ervine couldnt break into our squad so he went back in a last ditch attampt to play the WC. Good player no doubt but loyalty clearly aint his strong suit

Until ZC has a complete overhaul, which wont happen, they'll stagnate and eventually deteriorate. They'll get some players back for the WC no doubt because there'll be some money in the coffers for them, but when the WC ends and the same old problems emerge they'll all up ship again most likely, and who can blame them really....

Possibly, but ZC hasn't had money issues for nearly 6 months now. With more $$$ coming in, they will stick around a couple of years. I mean Ervine is 29 and lamb is 33 so they might finish up in ZIM. Too late to start elsewhere. Apparently Burl was always committed to ZIM and they got PJ Moor back as well.
