Does anyone know how bad the rain situation is? No news on cricinfo or bbc. We have already been off for about an hour, which means 14 overs will be docked atleast. If we start soon, we may get 35 overs or so. In which case I think we will get something around 200 to chase, maybe a little less! But it all depends on when the rain stops and play resumes.

Default I have done the math

And most of it is in the head ... Here goes:

Score is at 32 for 2. Approx over used 10, wicket left 8. Resources left: 77.8

Targets:

If we lose 10 overs - 211 (179/8 needed in the remaining 30 overs)
If we lose 15 overs - 189 (167/8 in 25 overs)
If we lose 20 overs - 164 (132/8 in 20 overs)
If we lost 30 overs - 97 (This own't constitute as a match as we have to bat atleast 25 overs but still - 65/8 in 10 overs).

The numbers don't look right so feel free to double check them.

Tehsin, assuming your computations are close, I would prefer a loss of 20 overs due to rain. Then we would be chasing 132 runs in 20 overs with 8 wickets to go. I know we won't get to that, but a good fight would be nice.

Wishful thinking, right? What else can I do on a second snowed-out day here in the East Coast.

Default Are you sure about those calculations?

I'm certainly no expert in D/L mathmania, however, I downloaded a program on the Net which calculates D/L scores and was doing some background reading on the method as well.

Is it not the case that in the second innings Bangladesh would still be chasing 245 in 50 overs, but that the D/L total is calculated depending on how many overs Bangladesh managed to play?

So for example, if Bangladesh managed to play exactly 25 overs in the second innings, then they would be winners if their total was:

93 for the loss of 2 wickets
104 for the loss of 3
119 for the loss of 4
138 for the loss of 5
159 for the loss of 6
181 for the loss of 7
205 for the loss of 8
226 for the loss of 9

The above totals were calculated using the software I downloaded.

At any rate, it seems impossible for Bangladesh to have attained any of the above totals in 25 overs. Absolutely impossible. For example, Sanwar and Ashraful would never have posted a partnership of 61 from the remaining 16.5 overs (if we're assuming a 25 over innings).

Anyway, I'm going to stop now. The D/L method is doing my head in.
