A lot of weird debate amongst some of the yuppie crowd here in Dhaka about Neymar's "ethnicity". Typical of the Bangali petit-bourgeois coconuts, the ignorant conjectures are laced with racist undertones. As if they are actually as White on the outside as they wanna be on the inside, just the way their colonial masters wanted them to be! Of course most in this crowd are Argentina supporters with very little idea about how phenomenally racist that society is, and just how much they're hated for by all of their neighbors except a similarly racist Uruguay. I've been there twice and can't say the stereotype is unfounded.
Anyway, the local coconut community believes that Neymar has some Asian blood as well given his fondness for Manga inspired hairstyles. There is a very large Japanese-Brazilian community in the country but Neymar has no Asian blood. Like most Brazilians, he's of Indigenous, Portuguese and African descent, and like most Brazilians, he's proud and celebratory of this diversity. Unlike many Argentines who tend to deny non-White blood if they have any, and openly refer to multiracial people in their neighboring countries and "mutts" and "monkeys". But ignorance is bliss and delusionary self-loathing pretty much defines the coconut community so eager to go down on Argentine divers and druggies playing the game.[/rant]
Here's a photo of Neymar's dad, mom and little brother and sister.
