Default AFC CUP: Muktijoddha vs Nebitchi

Muktijoddha out to prove earlier win was no fluke
20 April 2005

Dakha - Bangladesh’s Muktijoddha has a good chance of proving their doubters that the 1-0 win over Nebitchi of Turkmenistan in Group A of the AFC Cup two weeks back was no fluke.

The opportunity has arrived with the second round of the AFC Cup beginning today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

Muktijoddha recently won the Independence Day Gold Cup and looks to be the team in form in comparison with Nebitchi who is rooted at the bottom of the Turkmenistan League with one point after two matches.

Even though they are second on goal difference ahead of Muktijoddha, the Turkmenistan league champions looks in danger of losing the plot after the shocking defeat in Ashagabat two weeks back.

“All our concentration is now on today’s match. We feel that the nation has a lot of expectations on us after our away win against them in Turkmenistan,” said coach Shafiqul Islam Manik on The Daily Star newspaper.

A win for Muktijoddha would certainly help the Bangladeshi side to climb within reach of runaway Group A leaders, Al Faisaly of Jordan.
