One small example.
Killing is not prohibited in Islam. Under certain circumstances one is allowed to kill. Al queda is using this to justify its attacks on people. Can we say that their interpretation of the quran is wrong as in nothing is specifically told in the quran about these circumstances. A debate or a dialogue needs to happen regarding these sort of issues before we can expect Islam to be practiced properly. Times have changed, the quran was written thousands of years ago, there are a lot of things that did not exist then. Islamic scholars should meet and fix things before people use ISLAM to do things that are crazy.

attacking unarmed people cowardly is prohibited in Islam for sure as I heard it from an Imam in UK during the Jumma Khutba

The problem is we don't, me as well, try to learn from the Holy Quar'an.
