Jack, an African American kid walked straight up to me as I was desperately trying to become one with the insides of my allotted locker and asked with a look of mock concern: "So who died brotha?"
I didn't know what to say. Then he whispered into my ear "Now you're supposed to say "not your mama, that's for sure." We remain tight to this day.
