Recently our pacers are going through very bad patch on and off the field. They are not getting a good deal in BCL, not getting enough respect like an SLA does, have become almost black sheep of club cricket and also criticized by the fans.

For instance, Abul Hossain making his debut just created a world record by getting one of the fastest centuries of test history. But, nobody seems amused much about it. Since his debut till today, we saw posts from veteran and young BC members alike bashing him for his performance as a pacer. As he is a quick bowler everybody agrees to the fact that this would be his primary duty and unless he cannot produce dominance over opponent top order, whether he makes some runs or not does not really matter even if that makes an impact on the result or gives a face saving gutsy innings to relish a bit.

But, unfortunately same is not true for few big name players. To illustrate our skipper day by day is getting worse in his keeping. While he improved his batting a lot, he can make a simple catch look like as moving mountains and thus acknowledges the impossibility of holding on to it. Fans forget easily, start bashing him and her for not playing with enough responsibility while improvising shots but do not pay emphasis on primary rules like "catches win matches". Now, the primary duty of a wicket-keeper is to ensure possible stumping and holding on to catches behind the wicket. Also to ensure extras kept to minimum from a wayward delivery.

We can say that well he dropped Samuels twice but he made a fifty, enough contribution for team full of zombies. But, Samuels moved on to 200+ and we lost by 150+ runs does not cut to it. Like no matter how good a pacer you are if you have a similar pacer about 1 foot taller, you would go for the later; same should be considered for a keeper. I have been watching his game since his debut in England when he made headlines making a century in a practice match. He is technically good capable batsman and that should be his only forte to make his room into the leading eleven.

A taller, skillful wicket keeper who can bat a bit is the need of the moment.
