My quick review :

The Kiwis are finally here in Bangladesh after three years to take revenge for the thrashing they received last time, where they lost the entire series badly. With 2 Tests, 3 ODI’s and a T20 match, it will be interesting to see if there is a Banglawash or a Kiwi-wash this time. Bangladesh have much to prove as they need to repeat their previous exceptional performance. New Zealand will meanwhile need to battle hard to save themselves from another possible embarrassment.

Recently, Bangladesh has had a very good tour in SriLanka where they gave SriLanka a very hard time and they even came away with a few victories. The same stellar performance did not carry on in their next series which was against Zimbabwe. The tigers were sent packing home with their tails ripped off by the Zimbabweans. Bangladesh was quite confident that they would thrash Zimbabwe. Little had they realized that by being away from the limelight, Zimbabwe had worked hard as a team and had become a unseen threat.

Bangladesh will once again be looking towards Tamim, Mushfiq, Shakib and Nasir to guide them towards victory. But, the fans really hope that the other seven players in the team start performing and become regular performers of the same calibre as the Amazing four. Unfortunately for Bangladesh, if any of the four has a bad day, the match is doomed and rest of the team sees a domino effect of wicket loss.

Anamul had an appalling Bangladesh A tour and a mediocre NCL. it’s unclear why he has even been included. Then again every opener Bangladesh has tried to partner with Tamim has flopped and we are yet to see a reliable opener who can survive half of the innings. He has only crossed the 50 mark once in his career and that was the 120 versus West Indies last year.
Mahmudullah had a decent score of runs of late but he really needs to perform with the ball and more importantly, he needs to perform as a Vice-Captain and hold things together when the team are having a bad day in the field.
Abdur Razzak, the senior in the team has still not learned how to bat. He ought to spend more time in the nets so that his career of single digit scores can finally see some double digit scores. But, alas , maybe it’s too late and he IS coming to the end of his career. He also had a very bad Zimbabwean series where he could not pick up a single wicket in the ODI’s. As a primary baller, he badly needs to perform in this series.
Naeem Islam has two recent hundreds to boast about. Let’s hope he can make another one in this series. His career so far has also been disappointing with only two 50’s in the last two years.
Sohag Gazi has failed to make sort of impact in ODIs and frankly should stay away from ODIs. He has a good record in Tests and should only be used as a Test baller.
Rubel has been going wicketless too many times of late and really needs to up his game.
Mominul has been good in Tests so far and needs to show the same form in ODIs.
Robiul proved to be a valuable find in the Tests against Zimbabwe but he was completely exposed in the ODIs. Not sure what happened there!
It will be interesting to see what the newcomers Marshall Ayub and Al-Amin can do. Hopefully, they can improve the weakness of the pace department. It is indeed sad to see Nazmul sit out another series due to an unfortunate injury.
