Default Wicket Keeping Concerns - Solution

WICKET KEEPING CONCERNS – SOLUTION

While we presently have top order and fielding concerns wicket keeping is also an area we seriously need to look into.

Rahim though showed a lot composure and grittiness with some fighting innings in some
recent matches his wicket keeping is an area that needs improvement.

We already saw the fruits of having a specialized coach - Champaka Ramanayake in the bowling department where Mashrafe has shown tremendous improvement followed by Nazmul Hussain and young rookie Rubel who is improving though has a long way to go.

When a wicket keeper lapse occurs at critical stages it shatters the hopes of the team, nation and it could be very demoralizing for the suffering bowler.

That is not say the wicketkeeper will have a 100 % clean record. No wicketkeeper can claim that.

The point of my post is not to pinpoint Rahim’s shortcomings as a wicket keeper. We all know that. It is nothing new . I am trying to suggest a solution.

The solution is very simple .

We all know two Great Wicketkeeper Batsmen of the Subcontinent – Syed Ali Kirmani ( India ) and Rashed Latif (Pakistan).

We need to Hire one of these guys on an Ad hoc basis may be 1-2 months to fine tune the wicket keeping skills of Rahim and other Upcoming ones like Mithun Ali and others.

Just for record the great Kirmani in a recent cricket function in India said that the present Indian Captain Dhoni was flawed so far wicket keeping is concerned though he is a master leader and was instrumental in bring India within the top three Cricket nations of the world . When asked by a Reporter what flaws he noticed in Dhoni ‘s wicket keeping he said that it cannot be sorted now as he is in a matured stage. What I am trying to say is that the flaws of Rahim and upcoming wicketkeepers ( I am sure there will be many) needs to be addressed and fixed now as they are in the formative stage before it is too late.

In conclusion Rahim’s job as a key member of the team a team is 50% job done. No worries about his batting skills and abilities. He is a proven customer on this aspect

His wicket keeping – worrying for Team, Fans and the Nation. Also he is a potential captain being an Active member of 5 Musketeers run leadership we have. Unless he improves his wicket keeping skills he will eventually lose his spot and also deprive the nation of a potential future captain.

So BCB please consider hiring Kirmani or Rashid latif to hone skills of Rahim and upcoming wicket keepers in the better interest of Tigers, Cricket fans and nation.
