What is even more interesting is that the Sinhalese hathmaluva might have had its origin in Bengali culture. (I'm not an authority on this subject.) The Sinhalese are said to be descendants of a Bengali prince who set foot on Sri Lankan soil around 543 BC, along with his entourage.
