'It would have been a shot in the arm'
Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore believes fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza should have been included in the 39-man Rest of the World Test and one-day international squads announced by the International Cricket Council on Monday.
The young paceman, who embarrassed England on their 2003-04 tour, has taken 43 wickets in just 16 Tests thus far.
"I was really hoping he might be in that group," said Whatmore, a former Australian Test player.
"I may be biased but the boy can play. He has real competitiveness and a sense of self-belief.
"It would have been a huge boost for him, he comes from a team which is developing and it would have been a real shot in the arm and have helped the whole country along to have someone represented."
