I was reading some comments over at a SA cricket forum, and one enraged poster found this:
Quote:
New definition for 'Protea' added to dictionary:
protea [ˈprəʊtɪə]
n
(Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Plants) any shrub or small tree of the genus Protea, of tropical and southern Africa, having flowers with coloured bracts arranged in showy heads: family Proteaceae
[from New Latin, from Proteus, referring to the large number of different forms of the plant]
Alternate:
n
(Human Behaviour/People) any person or group of people who fail under the slightest pressure. Usage: "to choke", "You are a Protea" etc
Considered a gross insult in most cultures that play competitive sports
