Shahriar Hussain Bidyut
Career  Sketch

Compact opener and good close to the wicket fielder who struggled initially on his arrival on the international stage but began to show signs of class and consistency from 1999 onwards.  Played an important part in Bangladesh's momentous win over Pakistan and is the first Bangladeshi to have scored back-to-back centuries in a first-class match.

Probably ended up keeping wicket at the highest level sooner than he'd bargained for, (after Khaled Mashud was injured in the first Test against India) but held his nerve and stumped his Indian counterpart, Saba Karim.

Career highlights:
  • 133 and 121* in first class match against the MCC in 2000
  • 68 in ODI against Zimbabwe in 1999
  • 95 in ODI against Kenya in 1999
  • 70* in one-dayer against Barbados in Commonwealth games cricket tournament in 1998
